Since I work all day, I usually only ride at night. On the weekends it's all day and night. It's great stuff with empty roads...

Word. Last night I went for my first ride in god knows how long, due to massive amounts of snow and cold up here in the frozen tundra. It was awesome! My arse hurts from not being used to the sadle, but it'll get over it. Now to get rid of the 20 pounds I've gained over the winter. I just wish it would warm up, my motorbike wants out of the garage.

Riding in traffic and hitting all greens is also a cycling joy I seek at constantly. Bonus points for slight downhill grade and tailwind.

It sucks. Every winter I go from 180 to 200 pounds from not riding enough due to cold and snow. Also, my wife is Sicilian so I eats alot of pasta. Carbs + no riding for months at a time=fat me. None of my clothes fit proper and I feel like I'm about 400 pounds. Give me a month or two of solid riding, I'll be back down to 180. Also, the beer gets me every time. Why must everything I love make me fat?

Cycling doesn't make you fat, it makes you slim. In the gut and in the pocket.

I like riding at night if I am with someone, but usually enjoy cars and buses so I can race them, draft them, annoy them, and pay attention to them.

Night riding is the reason I started cycling though. After a Gorilla Biscuits show I was riding home from a friends house, and the calmness of the night was so awesome. I've never felt so free. I started riding on a regular basis after this point.

I swap-scored a fork on the 'wanna trade' thread. I left on a beer mission @ 10 PM only to pass on the closest store so I could ride on. I ended up doing a downtown loop and when heading back I almost forgot to stop for that beer.

I always sleep better with a spin after dinner. I should do it every evening.

I know the feeling. I ride at 4:30 am on a fairly rural road. The highway is my bike path.

On another note, I put away the trainer and rode outside year round for the first time this year. It was easier than I ever thought it would be. If you ride hard, the cold certainly isn't an issue. More people should try it. No weight gain and no trainer! :)

Nocash's poem Late Night Joy Ride explores and subverts the conventions of modern American youth. The author co-opts, redefines, and redeploys the image of the "joy ride." It is no longer the raucous affair of an autocentric culture, but rather a peaceful solitary exercise. Although the poet's imagery suggests an isolated, contemplative mood, by omitting the first person subject in lines one and three, he invites the reader to join him on his nocturnal flight. Finally, it should be noted that the author never mentions cycling in his work but the use of sparse text and limited punctuation evokes the simplicity of a fixed gear bicycle.

Heh... I end up putting on about 30 lbs over the winter. Start spring at 210 and end up at 175-180 by end of summer.

I use the excuse of "storing up energy for the summer". It has nothing to do with mass consumption of dark beer durring the winter month, I swear!

I do this all the time, minus the fork swapping. Half the time the forty or beer or candy bar or whatever never gets purchased.

Riding with or without cars is fun.

True words. This is why I hate winter. I need to build up a fixed MTN bike with studed tires for next winter or get me some rollers. I've got a beater for bad weather, but I don't think I can find studded 27 X 1/4 tires out there. ALso, just got into motorbikes, so I don't think my minister of finance is gonna be too happy about yet another bike build just yet.

I like really gaining some speed and going on both sides of residential streets.
