A year ago my son and his friend and I rode our bikes down the oregon coast. For nine days as soon as I hit my stride the words to 409 by the beach boys would start looping in my head. Over and over getty up getty up getty up 409 409 409..... then repeat.

Near the end of the trip I told my son and his friend and they said they were doing the same thing. Only my son was looping "if I only had a brain" from the wizard of oz. And Dan had this song he made up that was, peddle all day peddle all night peddle peddle all day and night.

Just wondered what songs loop in your head on long rides. BTW I don't have that happen just riding around local. It just happend on the long road trip.

Last week it was Placebo's "This Picture". Probably because that's what I was listening to just before I set off.

Ever had a song stuck in your head while biking?
All the time. Makes solo rides more enjoyable. :)

All the time on solo rides. Your cadence sets the beat and then come the tunes.

Having a 4 yr.old and a 1 yr. old you tend to have these silly kids songs stuck in your head for days, not just for one ride. The last song, "Hot Cross Buns", One a penny, two a penny, Hot Cross Buns. Pretty pathetic, huh?

Just as your mental state does. Before an anticipated tough ride, the theme from Patton, afterwards usually something from Boston or the Moody Blues.

I get lots of songs stuck in a loop in my head while riding solo. My worst one was actually at work. I'm a mailman for the USPS, and I delivered a small package from the "Kingston Trio Catalog". That was at about my third house. For the rest of the day I had "Hang Down YOur Head Tom Dooley" running around in my empty space between the ears all day.

Yup happens to me all the time. Usually when I drive someplace to go riding. I'll listen to the radio on the way to the trail and some song will get stuck in my head. Most times its a good song but every once in awhile its a song i dont even like ..... doh I hate when that happens :)

Whan I'm riding I'll usually get a song stuck in my head that I haven't heard for a while. There doesn't seem to be any connection to the song and where I'm at. They just pop into my brain and that's the only song I hear for that song.
When I start thinking about some sort of problem I know it isn't going to be that good of a ride.

One that springs to mind, not myself , but a guy with me on a tour a few years ago.

Day after day he would sing out at the top of his voice "My my miss American pie, I went to the Levy but the levy was dry" and on,and on, drove me crazy by the end of the trip. as soon as he started I would sprint away in front just to distance myself from that infernal song......

Did you ever see the commercial for drunk driving with that song? It was about 13 or 14 years ago that they played it. Some kids were in a car driving in a levy drinking. Them good ole boys were drinking whiskey and rye, this could be the day that they die. Then they smash into a wall or something. I guess it made its point because I still remember it.

I've no room for songs in my head what with all the voices in there :)

Last one was Kylie "Slow", how embarassing is that?

Some songs are awful, but at least you know them (Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale, a tale of a fateful trip...)

Some songs aren't so bad, but you don't know all the words, so you sing what you know, guess a few more, mentally mumble a few more, then start over! (Louie Louie, oh baybee, we gotta go ....???)

But the worst are little jingles that embed themselves into your brain, and you hate in any case, and repeat continuously (ba-da, da-da-dahh, I'm Lovin' It!!!) get out of my head!! :smiley with hands over ears:

Where do you go riding? Is there anything local for you? I'm from Interlachen and head back from time to time. I know about the trails in and around Gainsville but was wondering about other areas.

I like to have a song in my head when i ride it keeps my mind occupied.I like songs with a little emotion to them, I get some of that rap crap in my head and i'll go insane before the ride is over.

Dude. You have not been to hell until you've spent a week hiking alone with this song stuck in your head:

"Tell me what kind of man would I be,
living a life without any meaning?
And I know you could surely survive without me
But if I had to live without you
Tell me what kind of man would I be?"

I was giving some serious thought to hara-kiri, let me tell you. Consider that I couldn't even remember the rest of the lyrics, and it was just that damn refrain over and over again.

Super Chicken, for some reason these lyrics just make me want to pedal faster.

When you find youself in danger,
When you're threatened by a stranger,
When it looks like you will take a lickin', (puk, puk, puk)
There is someone waiting,
Who will hurry up and rescue you,
Just Call for Super Chicken! (puk, ack!)

Fred, if you're afraid you'll have to overlook it,
Besides you knew the job was dangerous when you took it (puk, ack!)

He will drink his super sauce
And throw the bad guys for a loss
And he will bring them in alive and kickin' (puk, puk, puk)
There is one thing you should learn
When there is no one else to turn to
Call for Super Chicken! (puk, puk, puk)
Call for Super Chicken! (puk, ack!)

For the most part I only have songs in my head on rides when climbing. It helps easy the missery ;) Usually some thing like, “It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood, It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood ….”

If not that then usually LimpBizit's "Rolling" and/or The Ramones' "Labotomy" mixed with "Rockaway Beach".

I can't remember the last time I actually heard this song, but for some reason, every time I get into a ride, this is the song stuck in my melon.

I'm always getting some punk/hardcore song stuck in my head. I can always tell what was stuck in my head the previous day by how sore I am. If hardcore is stuck in my head I usually push pretty hard. Good stuff. All those internet songs are so damn irritating, I hate when that stuff is in my noodle. Peace

Sometimes when I'm climbing and pedaling like a maniac, I hear the background music that plays when the Wicked Witch of the West is chasing Dorothy and Toto on her bike.

I had Manic Street Preachers' "From Despair to Where?" in my head for most of the day. That's a massive improvement on yesterday's effort.

ah, earworms.
I truely believe 1/3 of the male population over the age of 35 in the US have
"Innagaddadavida" stuck in their heads, the rest amble along to "Smoke on the Water" . . .
happens to me all the time, usually Pink Floyd "on the Turning Away".
then there are the annoying things that get stuck like "Its a small world, after all "
(how many of you are gonna hear that for the rest of the day?).
Me? I'm now stuck with Tom Dooley, thanks froze.

If you ever need to pick up the pace, try Mr Sandman...

Beware though, once it's in your head, it's nearly impossible to get out!

It's funny a couple of you mentioned songs from The Wizard of Oz. I just finished working on a production of the play here in Eugene and all the songs have been going through my mind. Even the Winkies tune. OEO, EOHHHH. OEH, EOHHHH.

Otherwise it depends on what music I'm working on at the time. Bach and Mozart get stuck a lot. Copland too.

Thanks a lot....the power of suggestion is bound to have me replacing the witch's tune with "OEO EOHHHH" next time out.

When I use to race there was another song that helped energized me for that final mile or trying to chase down the person in first place:

Here he comes
Her comes Speed Racer
He's a demon on wheels
He's a demon and he's gonna be chasin' after someone.

He's gainin' on you so you better look alive.
He's busy revvin' up a powerful Mach 5.

And when the odds are against him
And there's dangerous work to do
You bet your life Speed Racer
Will see it through.

Go Speed Racer
Go Speed Racer
Go Speed Racer, Go!

He's off and flyin' as he guns the car around the track
He's jammin' down the pedal like he's never comin' back
Adventure's waitin' just ahead.

Go Speed Racer
Go Speed Racer
Go Speed Racer, Go!

And then when I lined up for the start of a race this other song pops up out of nowhere:

Mighty Mouse
Mister Trouble never hangs around
When he hears this Mighty sound.

"Here I come to save the day"

That means that Mighty Mouse is on his way.
Yes sir, when there is a wrong to right
Mighty Mouse will join the fight.>
On the sea or on the land,
He gets the situation well in hand.

No, but my daughter often talks of getting a song stuck in her head. I always tell her there must have been plenty of room for it...
