Touring - Anyone been to the Baltic?

My friend and I have booked flights to Berlin for the middle of June. We have 8 days and no route yet. One of our destinations might be Usedom on the Blatic (might also go South to Dresden). The route looks great; a lot of great looking country, lakes and eventually the coast, which also looks excellent.
My only concern; I've been to the Baltic once before, in July, crossing from Germany to Denmark, and it was very, very windy and very, very cold.
Anyone know if that was just my bad luck, or does it have a habit of being cold and windy?
Anyone know which way the prevailing wind is in June? I figure it should be westerly, but then, does it come in off the sea (and as such, is it more of a North Easterly?

It looks like a great destination, but it could be a long 160 miles there if it;s into a headwind.

You've still got no route? After all that??

No, we like to spend a lot of time working out where we want to go, and the more we look, usually, the more we see.
When we went to the Black Forest last year, we booked the flights in December, and two weeks before we flew out we still hadn;t decided on a final route.
And even then, when we were actually on tour, we decided to go south from Freiburg to Bad Sackingen instead of North to Baden Baden.
You should expect ots more of these "anyone been to..." threads as we work out where we want to go.
It's one of the best bits, save actually being on the bike.

German Baltic or Baltic States Baltic?

German Baltic. We were thinking of using the Berlin - Usedom Radweg, which runs pretty well North. We may well then head West, as I read very good things about the State capital, Schwerin. I'm supposing that would mean we'd be heading into the wind (unless it comes in off the sea).

My German's not brilliant, but I get the idea it says "There's the posibility of it being windy on the coast, and the wind is usually from the Northwest or the East. And that the wind must be strong to be felt in the forest."
I don;t quite get the bit about around Prenzlau being especially delivered.

Anyone translate it better for me? Does it mention, or does anyone know, how strong the wind usually is?

Anymore for anymore?

We were in the Baltic region in June - July 2006 and it was anything but cold so I think maybe you got unlucky (in fact we got unlucky too as it was far too hot!) I don't recall any particularly strong winds there. We stayed in north-west Poland for a few weeks near the Wolin national park and Miedzyzdroje which is a beautiful area with lovely beaches although it gets very busy once the tourist season starts. We'd ride over the border into Ahlbeck, Germany to visit the Eiscafes there.

I don;t quite get the bit about around Prenzlau being especially delivered.My German is astonishing, and not in a good way. But the bit seems to say that Prenzlau area is open landscape (no forests or other barriers to wind), so you'll feel the wind particularly well there.

"Occasionally wind in our Region mostly from northwest or east. In the enlarged forests the wind has to be strong to feel it. But in forest-free areas especially around Prenzlau you are committed to the wind without protection. Close to the coast (about 50 km) the wind is mostly quite a bit stronger than in the interior"

This is more or less the 1:1 translation. And even as German don't understand what the hell they want to tell me with this kind of information:D Unfortunately I never cycled in East and North Germany.
