I finally did it- I moved, I got my DSL, and I finally got OLN! Just in time for flyfishing!

Don't they ever have anything on here about cycling?

If anything ever does come on, drop me a PM, because I'm getting a little frustrated with this- they should replay the Tour or something on tv.

On the other hand, I can't wait for cycling season to start- I want to see all the bike races I've been missing with basic cable.

I am psyched!

Nope, just guns, rods, and bull riding. I'm dropping my oln package until next year. It is HBO season now!

Doing good with the move, but a little overcome with everything right now. First thing I did was turn on OLN when the cable turned on, and... whooo! Flyfishin'! I kept on turning it back during the day before I figured out there was no cycling right now. :( When on Thursday nights is Sportszone?

just wait a few more months for the cycling season to start back up... you'll feel better about yer decision to get OLN then :-)

What's insane is that I told them I wanted the package that gave OLN. They quoted the price, which was only like $6 less than the full, you-got-it-all package, so I just paid the extra 6 bucks, and now I have like 200 channels or something. I spent a good part of yesterday just flipping for the fun of it- damn, I got a lot of channels! :eek:

So how do you like your DSL? I've had it for about three years now and I'll never go back to dial-up. How far are you from the central switching station?

i watch OLN, i like "don't forget your passport". and the TdF.

I hate these fishing shows too!
One thing to remember is they were the first (back when who no's when)and they have cut some of are best MTB trails around the rivers and ponds.

I had a cable modem before, so things were already pretty quick for me. I do like dsl- it seems to run just as fast as my cable modem. I do know I'm not feeling the dial up right now, but I do recognize that sometimes when the dsl is down, I can still get online through good old fashioned dial up.

Isn't there a lake near Chicago? I have an Eagle Claw brand Fly Rod that comes into 4 pieces and fits in an alumimun tube to tie on my bike. You could get one and try it. Anything is better than TV. -;)

if they rerun Bicycle Journal again, try to catch that. A couple of the episodes are real nice. My fave follows a tour with Ciclissimo Classico that cuts straight across the middle of Italy. 11 days, 10 of riding, 450 miles, and all the pasta you can eat :D Seriously, sounds like an awesome trip. Eat like a P_I_G Hawg in fine Italian restaurants and maybe even lose a little weight while you do it. Add a bicycle and you got heaven.

Joe- they have a big lake here- I think it is surrounded by 4 states and Canada, so yes.... there's a lake by Chicago. It's IN Chicago. I'm just a half a block away from the lake myself. I'm not one for flyfishing, but I see the guys out there at the first light while I'm riding getting their spots down at the lakefront and fishing. Flyfishin' just ain't my thing, dude. :-/ ;)

I remember your describing that ride across Italy. This one would be a once in a lifetime thing for me. Never been on a guided tour, complete with nice hotels and fancy restaurants. I want to do it once, in either France or Italy.

I'd do it, but you don't need no stinkin' guide to take you across some country! :D

Anyways, I never do guided trips. If I ever want to do a guided tour (like of the Vatican in Rome or some ruins in Chiapas or something like that), I'll hire a guide for the momument or whatever it is that I need explaining. I do hate seeing something of historical significance and not understanding why it has such cultural or historical meaning to the place I'm at. And fancy restaurants? Forgedaboudit! I spent $12 on a meal in Venice once and I was freakin out big time. That's about the most I ever spent on a meal while I was travelling abroad, and I've done a lot of travel since May 1992 when I did my first trip out of the country. You can get plenty of good food in places abroad for under 5 bucks if you put your mind to it.

Go on, what are you waiting for? Get over there and start living it up! And don't make it a once in a lifetime thing- make it a lifelong habit! :D

Rest easy. In the more than 3 yrs I've had DSL I've never had it go down. I don't even have a modem in my computer. BTW, started out with Earthlink and switched to Verizon back in July.

I rode around the lower half of Lake Champlain in August. I know some great places to stay (etc) in Maine, and I'd be glad to tell you about them if you ever come this way.
As to restaurants, there is good and bad in every price range. I stopped at a Dairy Queen that had gone under, and turned into a lunch stand in florida once. I was going to a flying museum by the backroads. It was incredible, like the fruit shakes with the taste of fruit picked that morning. To be honest, I am torn between that trip with CC, and one of B&R's famed sojurns through the south of France. B&R is considered the Rolls Royce of bicycle tour companies, the price'd give you a heart attack. But I know a guy who went with them, and is hoping to go again.

Fly-fishing in Lake Michigan would be and interesting site. We used to watch them clean the perch at the Michigan City boat docks. They were monsters. Now that we are here by Lake Erie I flyfish for steelhead and brookies in the creeks, but I don't eat them. Hey this lake caught on fire once. I practice catch and release for my health not the fishies. :p

My Orvis did snap in half. What I didn't say was that it was my fault. It was my favorite rod, and I used it for everything. I was fishing for salmon on a very rocky bottom. I was using a double hook fly. It was an expensive hand made number, and I didn't want to loose it. I thought for sure I could work it lose. Prob shoulda used my 6 wt. Wouldn't have cared if that busted.

I'm the one with dark hair... I know a couple of guys who take a boat out to the scum line on Lake Michigan (formed by deep currents that bring food up to the surface), blow up their float tubes, jump into the water and fish for steelhead on the surface! On that note, I was up fishing last week and hooked six nice fresh steelies, landed two. I practice catch and release almost exclusively. I might keep a couple of anadromous fish over a whole year, and only keep trout if I'm camping in the bush and want them for food (rarely), I never take any home.
