Electra's are the best. Schwinn is OK but they're a little small for me. If you can find a single speed Schwinn at WalMart, try it out. The Schwinns at discount stores aren't as nice as the ones at bike shops but they're good sfor the price.

'Good' and 'cheap'? Have you tried looking in Craig's List? How much use are you planning on giving the bike? Are you any good at wrenching?

The Walmartization of America. Nobody wants to pay for quality goods or quality services. Don't get me started........

I've been seeing a lot of Micargi (http://www.micargibicycles.com/)beach cruisers around lately.

Go to beachbikes.net and check out their basic cruisers. Their single speed Firmstrong Urban is beachbikes.net's best-selling cruiser because it has a really low price point but has proven over the years to be very consumer-friendly (for dopes who know slim-to-nil about bikes) and reliable. There may be better bikes out there, but there's no harm in taking a look.

I don't know about beach cruisers, but I can say from recent personal experience, I'm unbelievably glad I picked up a new Dahon folding Boardwalk (single speed, coaster brake) from Bikecology in Venice, CA. It was $180 out the door, all set up and perfectly functional. It's a great bike. Fold it up, put it in the back seat or trunk, drive to the beach and bike yourself silly. It's a great bike. I have a Dahon Curve D3 and the ride compares very well, maybe even better if you like an upright riding position. Bikecology is also a great bike store. Had a flat awhile back on the back tire of my Curve, I was in and out in 15 minutes even getting the gears and V-brakes adjusted.
