Hi,
What kind of special tools do I need to take apart the rear hub.
Where are they available? The big catalog places don't make any mention of them.
I'm planing on re spokeing my rear wheel sometime this winter.
THANKS

You will need:
a freewhel remover and chainwhip to remove the freewheel
a set of allen wrenches to remove the freehub body from the hub shell
cone wrenches to remove the jam nuts and cones from the hub
rags and some sort of cleaning solvent to clean the bearings
clean bicycle bearing grease to repack the bearings
spoke wrenches, a nipple driver, spoke prep, new spokes and nipples, and lots of patience to respoke the wheel

Any of your local bike shops should carry basic tools such as for casette removal, and various cone wrenches to do the job.

If your rear hub uses cartridge bearings instead of loose ball bearings, you'll need bearing pullers/drivers, a bearing press, and maybe some snap-ring pliers. You'll also need to find replacement cartridge bearings of the same inner diameter/ outer diameter (possibly several different sizes) that were removed.

park tools is a widely available brand of good tools, and their website is worth a look, stacks of sound advice.
Don't forget to take a peek at the Barnett's Manual chapter on rear freehubs for servicing them.
