My son is getting a Toyota Prius 2004.
Any ideas about a bike rack to fit? Or even ideas of some web site to check out?
It's a pretty strange hatch back type car.

If he cycles often, I'd go with a roof rack.

Seconded. Roof racks fit on virtually everything. If you can't fit the bike in the car itself, these are probably my preferred option.

Hitch mount would be next best - the body configuration of the car shouldn't matter here either. Just get a receiver hitch fitted, and buy a rack (you can easily transfer this from car to car if you have the same size receiver, too).

Check out the options from Yakima (http://www.yakima.com/home.html) and Thule (http://www.thuleracks.com/thule/carrier_bike.asp).

Check with your Toyota dealership. Most, if not all, auto manufactuers sell bike racks for their cars.

It can be done and is easy to do. Check out this blog post.

Yakama makes a roof rack for the Prius IIRC. If you are looking for a hatch mount "strap on" type I imagine the Saris Bones would work. I know that it fits the Scion tC

I have to say that I am not at all a fan of the hitch rack. I hate watching bikes sway back and forth on those things, especially when behind them. I'm sure they're safe, as I'm sure that my bikes move on my roof-mount Thule, but the hitch mount gives me the willies nonetheless.
