I might be in for it. I need to get in more miles so I would probably head over to climb 9, descend Page Mill then meet at the start of OLH.

Yes, yes, yes, yes ... I'm not on-call, and I'll be home, so I am definitely interested.

You don't want to go 35, to 92, back to the start? Just wondering.

WOLH isn't a very fun descent. Just my $0.02. Plus if, from the top of OLH, you head north on 35 and west on 84, you can get water at Skylonda.

Yeah, I usually go up WOLH.

We could, but that part isn't so fun in regards to traffic and room IMHO.

A good rider can keep up with traffic with only a minimal amount of pedaling. If there is a lot of traffic at the summit, try to jump in a gap between a faster car and a slower truck. Accelerate hard in the on-ramp so that you're spinning your fastest gear before you hit the highway. You should be able to beat the truck down the hill and the truck won't try to pass you anyway.

Slow or wobbly descenders may feel very uncomfortable on this road. It is only 2 miles or so, though.

so is this ride official? so we can make plans. I had been tentatively planning a Tam ride, but I'd move that down the road.

Am I the only one who LIKES descending WOLH? East OLH - that has to be the least fun descent on the whole Peninsula. But West is nice - scenic, no traffic, you can take it at your own pace, and there's room to get by all the potholes without slowing down.

Marco, do this ride again in May, and I'll join you. I need to build my climbing legs before I tackle Tunitas Creek again.

I like descending WOLH. The west side has a lot better visibility than the east side. The road is narrow and bumpy and there is some uphill traffic, so don't go too fast. Just enjoy the scenery. If you're heading out to the coast, be very careful turning left at the stop sign at the bottom of the hill. Traffic coming up Hwy 84 on the left is very hard to see (and sometimes very fast). Listen as well as look before proceeding. Because of safety at that corner (i.e. careless cyclists), most local centuries avoid WOLH (downhill).

For the descent back after Tunitas, is the any objection to adding a few miles by taking 35 back to 84, and descending 84 back to Woodside. King's is a bit technical for some, and 92 is a bit sketchy.

Besides I love the 84 descent :)

The northerners can start at Caņada & 92 and the official start can be at Robert's in Woodside??

Yeah, I like the 84 East descent, too, though there are some sections that are a little lumpy due to poor patchwork, but 84E and King's Mtn are both pretty similar in my book, with King's Mtn being a little longer in length, maybe? Long sections of tuck & coast are pretty uninspiring (and favor auto traffic) IMO.

This is so tempting. I'm out of town this weekend, maybe thats what makes it tempting :-P. If this for some reason gets postponed then it looks like a great ride.

What kind of pace are you guys looking to push?

Solid moderate pace on the flats, with us mostly sticking together.

Your own pace on the bigger climbs, re-group at all summits and after the descents.

I haven't done the whole of Tunitas since then either. I am looking forward to it. :)

What's the final revision of the route and start time at Robert's market?

uspspro
03-24-08, 12:07 PM
Final version = http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Peninsula-Ride-March-2008
(waiting for graph to rebuild)

First post has been updated.

Collective meeting point = Robert's in Woodside

Northern meeting point = Caņada/92

The ride ends up being only 51 miles but I am assuming people will be riding to Robert's. For example I will end up with over 70 miles and closer to 6800 ft of climbing or so (starting from my house).

Plus, with almost 6500 feet of climbing, this won't be an "easy" 51 miles. ;)

I decided to descend King's back to Woodside.

Still not sure of the day/start time.

Is there anyone who cannot make a certain day (out of Sat and Sun)?

I'm half considering doing a 200K, so I might be leaving from the city. Might need a contact # just in case I'm running late. Other wise you'll see the little yellow taxi at 92/Canada 9:20.
