Introductions - Hello from Dallas, TX!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hi all!
I am a bike maniac from Richardson, TX (next to Dallas proper). I am interested in vintage bikes, bike mechanics (the mechanics of bikes, and the mechanics themselves as well I guess ;)), long distance touring and racing, and commuting.
I currently own 5 bikes:
1973 Raleigh Gran Sport - my daily commuter
1972 Raleigh Lady's Sport (in pieces - I want to learn more about restoration and fix it up)
2007 Schwinn LeTour (this was my first road bike, I might be selling it in a couple of months)
2006 Bianchi 9-2-8 L'Una - the only Ferrari I'll ever own
1968 Schwinn Collegiate - recently purchased at a garage sale - selling if anyone is interested.
So - I am sure I will be all over the forums with tons of questions - everything from taking apart a bottom bracket to training for a double century.
And by the way, if you go to Southern Methodist University, or know someone who does - contact me! I will be leading some beginner-intermediate rides on Sundays starting 3/30/08.
Best all!
Lisa

Thanks Stephen - nice to *meet* you.
Are you going to do the MS 150? Do you ride with any local groups?
Lisa,
Welcome to BikeForums! There are lots of Dallas area cyclist on the forums here, and more than a couple of them are into the vintage stuff as well (myself included!) There is actually some talk of finally getting a vintage bicycle ride put together in mid to late April, probably down at White Rock Lake. I also know of at least one person who works at SMU who is into vintage bikes. Don't think he's on this forum though.
Why are you considering selling the road bike? As far as groups go, Plano Cycling Association is who I ride with and one of the better clubs in the dallas area if I do say so myself. (though there are lots of great ones!) I won't be able to make the MS150 this year, the dates keep evading me, but I do a number of charity rides each year, my first will be next weekend in Sulphur Springs.

Thanks Cuda! I am really happy to have stumbled upon this site. I guess this internet thing is catching on, huh?
If you think your friend would be interested in a Sunday ride you can send me a PM with his email, or you can tell him to email me - lisarmarshall-at-msn.com.
I am trying to come up with a route for it - I have something kind of fleshed out at bikely.com. Search for routes in Dallas, and it is called SMU - Turtle Creek - Trinity... I think. I am going to ride it this Sunday and make sure it is decent. It could be a total flop.
Check out my post (http://bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=400323)in General Discussion area - any advice?
Your route reminded me that the Greater Dallas Bicyclist club used to have some routes down that way. Their website is here: http://www.greaterdallasbicyclists.com/
Not sure if they use those routes any more or have started riding further north to get out of the city traffic as the PBA does. I'll check out your other thread. :)

In your email address you should replace the @ with "at" or <at>. Whatever gets the point across. Automatic spam software is always scanning websites looking for the @ symbol so it can record email addresses to send junk mail to.
^ Good point Ryan. I've edited it for her. :)

He is the one with the party bass, after all :p ! Boy, you guys could have a great time--how many C & V people do you think you could get together there?
East Hill
jsharr, lisa, lotek, Hobartlemagne and myself would be easy to gather up. There are a few others I know who ride vintage steel and know how to turn a wrench.

That would be quite some party. Just make sure that Jeff catches a new bass, ok?

I'm in! Remember I am still in the beginning stages of my bike building - I expect lots of laughter directed at me. If not before, then definitely after finals are over around the 2nd week of May. I will be well over due for some fun.
We really should do this - a great edition to the possible C&V ride....
Mark and Jeremiah from RBM would like to come too I bet. Do you guys know either of them? They work at Richardson locale....

Ha! cuda practically lives at RBM. He's literally almost next door, if I remember correctly.

I know the names and I'm sure I've spoken to both of them. I think I know who Mark is. Believe he came to the Classic Rendevous dinner at David Cheakas' shop back in Janurary and saw him up at NAHBS as well. Jeff and I are both within only a few miles of RBM Richardson. I'm less than a mile if I take the direct route, closer to 3 if I go around the long way via residental streets. Which reminds me I need to go by there tonight to see if they have an axle.

I know Jeremiah. Bought my 1200 from him and have seen him at church.

I live close as well - in fact most Saturdays I ride to the rides....if that makes sense.
East Hill should make a mini-vacation of it and come down! I am sure we could find plenty of bikes for her to wrench on..... : )

It's a tempting thought, but I'm already heading to California next week, down to Oregon for a ride at the end of May, and Hawaii at the end of June.
On the other hand, if I ever do show up, I know that there's a lot of DFW folks who probably wouldn't mind beer, pizza, and bike wrenching :) .
