This was an unusual organized BF ride in that only the organizer came. There were some downsides but it did lighten the burden of responsibility, and no one got dropped or lost.
There I was at the Oceanside Amtrak Station all alone, looking at a long solo effort, when my imaginary friends Spiny Norman and Harvey agreed to join me. What I relief. I hate solo centuries. Harvey was on his Roubaix as usual and Spiny Norman chose to bring his immaculate 1958 Hetchins "Experto Crede".
I was not feeling good today and I'm afraid I held the group back, but Harvey and Spiny were good sports about it.
Here are my friends climbing Old Castle Road, with Spiny showing off in the big ring.

As I mention, work stress, lack of enough riding in the last two, weeks and the beginnings of a cold sapped my energy, and in Rainbow I seriously considered bailing and calling for a ride, but Spiny's merciless ridicule was enough to motivate me to press on.
We came by some fans who wanted autographs. We didn't have a pen so we branded them instead.

From Bonsall back to Oceanside we had a significant headwind which made evident to me one of the few drawbacks of imaginary friends. You can't draft off them.
This was our miserable attempt at a paceline on the river trail. Pathetic.
