This was an unusual organized BF ride in that only the organizer came. There were some downsides but it did lighten the burden of responsibility, and no one got dropped or lost.

There I was at the Oceanside Amtrak Station all alone, looking at a long solo effort, when my imaginary friends Spiny Norman and Harvey agreed to join me. What I relief. I hate solo centuries. Harvey was on his Roubaix as usual and Spiny Norman chose to bring his immaculate 1958 Hetchins "Experto Crede".

I was not feeling good today and I'm afraid I held the group back, but Harvey and Spiny were good sports about it.

Here are my friends climbing Old Castle Road, with Spiny showing off in the big ring.

As I mention, work stress, lack of enough riding in the last two, weeks and the beginnings of a cold sapped my energy, and in Rainbow I seriously considered bailing and calling for a ride, but Spiny's merciless ridicule was enough to motivate me to press on.

We came by some fans who wanted autographs. We didn't have a pen so we branded them instead.

From Bonsall back to Oceanside we had a significant headwind which made evident to me one of the few drawbacks of imaginary friends. You can't draft off them.

This was our miserable attempt at a paceline on the river trail. Pathetic.

Great pics, Dan, but I'm sorry you didn't have company. Oh, and are Spiny Norman or Havey single? :p

Sorry I couldn't make it Dan. Glad you went anyway. I had a bit of a busy couple of weeks.

Looks like you had a great ride, Dan. I did a solo century as well today, but a lot tamer than yours. That hill on Old Castle Road would have done me in, I'm afraid.

What did you think of Live Oak Rd and Sleeping Indian?

You think I would use your route when you bailed? That's like agreeing to carry a bag on the plane for a stranger.:eek:

Actually I was too fried by the time I crossed 15 to want any unknown climbs. so I just stayed on Mission all the way to River Road. I'll try it next time.

That's a sweet Hetchins. Lovely pics too. I haven't been up that way in ages. I would have joined you but I was at work all day. Short staffed in a good way.

I gave you a :( face! I wouldn't want to have ridden that ride solo...well, or at all, for that matter. :p (I'm not in the shape to do it as it sounded tough)

That ride is tough I was going to do it but everyone seemed to be dropping out and I already did 75% of that ride on friday and with not a big enough group to share the work I was not going to do it again back to back

Hey Dan, sorry to hear you had a miserable ride. ;) Nice pics, anyway. Do you think you'll give it another try in April or May? Or you give up after the overwhelming success? ;)
Honestly, I would like to be there but I'm glad I bailed out. I'm not ready for a 100 mile ride.

Can you ask if Harvey and SN are available for Stagecoach?
