I watched The Lawrence Welk Show with my folks tonight. Good times were had by all.

When was the last time you sang "On The Street Where You Live"(By Vic Damone) with your dad?

It brought tears to my mom's eyes.

For some reason he always reminded me of a turtle.

For some reason he always reminded me of a turtle.maybe, but there was some real talent on the show. Bobby and Sissy knew how to dance, like nobody's biz.

Lithuanian, huh? My Polish great aunt loved that show. She was so sad when he died.

Yes. I much preferred fantasy island which was later on in the night, especially the episode where Roark battles Lucifer.

The Love Boat was also intolerable.

The Love Boat was also intolerable.LW was on much earlier in the evening. Grandma and I used to watch Emergency 51 first. Maybe she'd let me watch part of "the Love Boat" later in the evening , but my folks kept me on a very short chain most of the time.

'Emergency 51'...Wow, I'd forgotten about that one! It would be a hoot to see an episode of that today.

My dad enjoyed both Lawrence Welk AND HeeHaw.

When I was a kid, I learned how to change the channel from Lawrence Welk.
It doesn't get more vanilla than that.

Barry Manilow is a preacher now?!?!?

I remember with no fondness whatsoever, my long-deceased Grandmother's near obsession with Lawrence Welk. (loved Grandma, didn't mind listening to Nat King Cole, but L.W.... enough to drive a teen-age lad outside for a walk through drifts of snow on a cold and windy day).

Wouldn't bother me at all if he were making a cultural comeback though. I already watch almost zero television. ;)

Wunnerful, wunnerful....

Man, this thread brought back some long-idle brain cells. LW was the Saturday night staple for my grandparents, and we dutifully joined them in watching it when my family came over for a visit to their big, rambling farmhouse. They had the first color TV I ever saw (OK, I'm old) and it was fascinating, but of course seeing the Flintstones and Jetsons in color was a lot more interesting.
