Road Cycling - I had a convo with LA!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Now before anyone doubts me, I work in the San Jacinto Building in downtown Austin and in the building is Capital Sports Entertainment and its run by a guy named Bill Stapleton who happens to be Lance Armstrongs agent. I am the parking garage guy, i sit in the little box and take tickets and raise the gate. So back to the story, I was up stairs using the restroom and washing my friends when BAM! there is LA right next to me washing his hands and my mouth opens and come outs, "GOD DAMN LANCE ARMSTRONG!" and he laughed and said hello. We procedded to have about a 10min convo on bikes and austin and stuff. I told him about my bike (02 Bianchi Brava) and he said it was an excellet entre-level bike even better than the one trek makes!..that was a huge boost, because i made a good buy! And he didnt rush with the convo at all, infact i was the one who had to break it off because i had to get back to work. I told him it was great talking to him and he said they same and he told me good luck.
What a great guy! :D

You were washing your friends and Lance Armstrong didn't have anything to say about it? I would have been embarrased.
Hahhaa.... I noticed the same thing.!
I just bought "It's Not About The Bike" and have been reading a bit this evening.
That's pretty cool to run into LA, even if it was in a men's room...jk
I'm blown away by the riding community in general, imagine running into Earnhardt Jr. or someone...I doubt you'd get the time, etc. Even if you did, I wonder if they'd discuss your car purchases.

I have to agree pjbaz! These forums and the local bike club have been wonderful to me. Everyone deserves a pat on the back!
I wonder if L.A. every comes to Montana? We have some great climbs here! :D

I read Lance's book too and I gather his bout with cancer makes him a bit more down to earth than most of your other famous athletes. He's got his head screwed on straight and I don't think he looks down on anyone.

I call mine the "Caped Crusader", sometimes after a long hard ride "Hiding Turtle".

Good stuff. Get an autograph?
Cold rides always bring on the SODS, or Stack Of Dimes Syndrome.
Anyway, I bet someone like Earnhart would actually be relatively friendly. I'd also imagine that there's no shortage of aloof or outright jergoff-ish pro cyclists out there.

Its funny you ask about the autograph...in my backpack downstairs i had his new book in there, but i didnt get an autograph. Im much happier having a convo with him then him signing something and leaving. I have met all kinds of people since working in there. The garage connects to the Four Seasons Hotel as well. We get all kinds of people through there. Willie Nelson, Lyle Lovitt, Nolan Ryan, Lance Armstrong, The president of mexico (of course i only saw secret service), its quite a fun job.

And here I thought I was the only one that thought the dead were more tolerable then the living. Certainly they are less annoying then most...

I had an opportunity to see Lance speak in Indianapolis a couple of weeks ago and I was impressed with how he deferred the celebrity to the other cancer survivors who were in attendance. Cool you got to meet him.

He's referring to Dale Earndhart's son who is also a race car driver and, unlike his father, alive.

I am well aware, however he said Earnhardt, no specific statement as to which one. Just as my earlier reference to washing one's friends, it was a joke.
For future reference it's spelled Earnhardt, not that I am a fan.

Wow! In the same circumstance, I think I would probably be tongue tied and just babble! Even though I am considerably older than Lance, he is still one of my heros.

A friend of mine who is a certified NASCAR nutcase, says all the drivers are very friendly with the fans and down to earth guys. He was at one track where ESPN was interviewing some driver or another, and he left the interviewer in mid question because some fans were clamoring for his autograph.
But who would want to talk to a NASCAR weenie when you could talk to Lance Armstrong!
