so i know they would come with the same components but which would be a better frame for just commuting and riding for fun.. also it doesnt say does the jamie roy just come in white?

"Mark five" supposedly sounds all badass and metal, like the name of a German tank, apparently. I don't really get it either even though I listen to some black metal.

I would choose the Jamie Roy, but thats because I already have 3 steel bikes and only 1 aluminum. Both are good frames and will do fine on the road.

the mark v pro uses reynolds 631 tubing, just that makes it a good value in my opinion. i would get just the frameset though, and spend a little more on parts to make it a realy nice bike. the IRo wheelset is pretty damn good too, though.

The Pro has zero braze ons, probably not ideal for commuting. And on the site, all they have left is a 62. That being said, I just got one. :P

yeah 62 is too big and thw reg. mark v is reynolds 631 too according to another thread on here

Nah, CroMo. Everyone says you can't tell the diff though. IRO Site says it's a 0.4 lb difference in the 56 size.

i have the mark v and I love it. never ridden a jamie roy, though.

this is a british mark v. but it's not nearly as brutal as the aforementioned tank.

i have a jamie roy and my friend has a mark v. both are dope bikes. the j.roy is aluminum so rust won't be an issue but you will feel bumps more. i dont mind at all. mark v has more color choices. anything iro is awesome.

I bought a Jamie Roy about a month ago and IRO did'nt have my size in white. I really liked the white but I could only order it in black(50 cm). Once I got it and put it together I was so happy that I bought the black. The black looks much nicer- IMO - that is. I love the bike, it's my first fixed gear. You'll be happy with either bike. You can't go wrong with IRO.

I'm not sure. When I ordered mine I was planning on getting the white but Tony only had a black in my size. I would have been happy with the white though. Just e-mail Tony.

i'm completely with you 100% on unwrapped bars.








however, that guy does have grips. so he gets an okay.

edit: the jamie roy also has fender mounts. these are not to be overlooked.

I have both frames, and I would definitely recommend the Jamie Roy as a commuter. It has fender/rack mounts, clearance for cross tires, two sets of bottle cage bosses, is not susceptible to rust damage, etc. It's a very versatile bike. I use mine throughout the year with several different tire and handlebar setups, and it always looks pretty good.

My only criticism is that the stock fork can be uncomfortable to ride. It is very stiff and transfers road vibrations to the point of causing wrist pain (for me). Most of the year, I ride mine with a cheap carbon fork.

I <3 my Jamie Roy for commuting. Just bought a nashbar carbon fork for it and I HIGHLY suggest the first upgrade you put on it is a carbon fork.

riding a jamie roy as well.... great bike and having a performance fork in place. really make a who lot of difference.

Loved my JR. Great commuter. The only thing I don't understand is why the bike has rack mounts at the dropouts but not on the seat stays. I hate P-clamps. Also, the speacialized nimbus 38's i bought did not fit and the frame can't accomodate wide fenders. 32's with thin fenders would probably be the way to go.
