I was hoping to be able to ride today because they said it was going to be in the high 40's, but I woke up to this.

Monday & Tuesday they are saying highs in the 60's but of coarse I'll be at work. Can't wait until next month when the weather will be a little more predictable.
I knew I should have gone for a ride yesterday instead of cleaning the house. At least there wasn't snow on the ground yesterday but it was colder.

Just about finished my back off yesterday putting the base in for the wifes new pool. Started this morning at 8am to finish off yesterdays work and a couple of MTB buddies turned up for a ride. Besides the fact that I had a lot to do today--On the pool again- There was no way I was going. Having to crack the ice on the water butt told me it was going to be cold. No Concreting today but I could still dig out the footings.
They came back 2 hours later. And I had to check out one of the bikes as it wasn't changing gear. They had got on top of the hills and found 2" of Ice up there--Everywhere. Snowed in the night- thawed a bit and frozen. Found the problem on the gear change- The light oil I had put on the cables last week was frozen.
Just glad I had some thing more important to do than go out on a bike and get frozen- I did that in the garden with plenty of coffee to hand.
And gardening tip of the week- Easter is the time to get your early potatoes into the ground. Any one got a pick axe?

Before I got old, fat and lazy I used to MB every Saturday with a group of guys. There were no excuses accepted for skipping a Saturday. I remember riding in the cold and about 6 or 8 inches of new snow. My brakes would melt the snow and leave a film of water on the rims. That would freeze going up the next hill so I'd have no brakes whatever on the next down. The only way to slow down or stop was to ride off the side of the trail into the soft snow.
Oh - even back in those days I didn't have to worry much about shifting. I just left it in granny pretty much all the time so freezing shift cables weren't an issue. I could have done just as well, maybe even a little better, on a single speed.

Suggest we all head down to Al Gore's mansion and recreate the mob scene from Young Frankenstein.

See what we have turned into!!!
Have to admit that I will ride when its cold- ride in the wet- Ride in the wind----But all three together and No way now. Only a few years ago I went out on the MTB to get pics of the snow on the hills. That was december 2005- the last time we had snow settle on the hills.

O.K. so I grew a pair & decided to go out around 2:30 since most of the snow had melted. Ended up being a little chili but at least there was not much wind.
Learned you don't to ride after eating scalloped potatoes, green beans, cottage cheese, & meat loaf.:D At least I waited about an hour before I left but I still could feel it so I decided to not ride as fast & work more on my posture & keeping my arms bent, head & shoulders square, etc. etc.
I still ended up riding 27 miles with average speed of 26 MPH & that is with two pretty good hills so I was happy.
One thing Steve at the LBS told me; when climbing you don't want to be angry at the hill, but try & relax even relax your face so I worked on that.
I was gone for an hour & forty minutes so it ended up being a good ride, plus I got to see three deer trying to cross the road but they were nice enough to wait for me to pass. :D

You averaged 26 mph for 27 miles with hills? OMG.
I'm going to go pout for a while. 27 mph is my highest speed ever, and that on a short downhill.

Boy that would be nice wouldn't it. That should be 16 MPH not 26, better proof read next time. :D
