Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Chicago Meeting of the Fix/Single Speeds?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Okay-
This was brought up before, but nothing ever came of it. So...
Who would be up for this? A get together of all/some of Chicago's One Gears?
1. Agree on a date
2. Agree on a location
3. Meet on agreed upon date and agreed upon location
It is really that simple. This could be a good thing. Anyways, let's get some ideas rolling. stickerguy, absntr, dumpster vegan, jasonyates and all other Disciples of One...post crap for this here.
My suggestion:
Holiday Club "North" 4000 N. Sheridan (the other one in WP got the axe). 2nd weekend (Friday) in November.
Next...
way to take the initiative 165
i'm down for whatever.

Word, I'm down too. Just let me know when it is and I'm there. I've not been on the forums a lot recently but I'll keep checking this thread to see what the latest developments are!
I would recomend Delilah's for a selection of good brews and oddball music on North Lincoln. Of course I'm back in Cincinnati. I miss Chicago sometimes.:(

My friend bartends there. I go there quite a bit, so just looking to change the venue a bit.
Good suggestion though

We could do that, I just suggested Holiday as I am up in RP.

I must admit a certain amount of self interest on my part as well. :o I Live in Oak Park and the Handlebar is on the way. I'd be up for anywhere with good atmosphere, food and brew, live music optional. cheers! next...

I am up for this as well. I would love to see more fixies / single speed setups in person. Every other bike where I live is a Magna or Huffy.

I'm in Humboldt so Handlebar is close to me. I don't care though. I have ridden to Delilahs before. 4000 north is a little further than I usually go, but no big deal. That would actually be cool, give me an excuse to go somewhere else.
Panasoanic: Do you think I can get that stem from you? I don't think there is another one in the world that fits this pesky fork. :)
-Jason
We gotta do the Handlebar! It's only appropriate! How about a Tuesday, two weeks from now? The 11th? Monday the 10th?
Sorry, 165, didn't see the Friday, that too if people are down for it.

Sure thing, I've still got it. I also recently swapped out my old fork/headset/stem assembly from the 1984 Trek I ride. I believe that the components from the Trek will fit the Schwinn as well. They should also be better quality than what came with the Schwinn. You'll get much better use out of them than me, so I'll let you have them.
Send a message to me at uniseriate@yahoo.com and we can work something out.

I will be an "on word" guest. My fixed is not done because Soma's out of frames. If there weren't, I'd be there in SS style. Instead, I will be MTB.
Which bar?

On word, In Spirit or With Good Intentions... ...it all works. You already owned a few Fixie's/SS's anyway, you childhood tri-cycle and your first coaster brake kids bike. I think that is good enough for the congregation. The important thing is that you have seen the true light. Besides you can ply people with drinks for information on what mistakes to avoid in building up your new frame.
As to the Bar it is still open for discussion (I vote Handlebar). Any suggestions?
How's this for folks:
Handlebar 2311 W. North Ave.
Possible dates? :
Monday - 10th Nov.
Tuesday - 11th Nov.
Thursday - 13th Nov.
Friday - 15th Nov.
I like Tuesday.

Absntr-
I am leaving this to you as HandleBar is out of effective range for me for weekdays. Maybe we should do North and South meetings??? Attend as possible? AS much as possible?
We could do weekends as well...or have it at Holiday, how about everyone else? What do folks think? A weekend? I'm biased towards the Handlebar cause I dig the food, but I'm open to whatever. Attend as possible might be a good idea though it's up to the rest of you folks for majority vote for day and place.
so I had a little incident with an acura so dpending on insurance agents and yojimbo's my bike might not make it. But I will.

I am still planning on going to Holiday Club (the surviving location up north) this Friday (Nov 14th). Meet me or don't.

Sorry folks...gotta bail for tomorrow. My father just went into the hospital for surgery and I will be out in the 'burbs for the rest of the week.
If the Handlebar gig goes down, let me know the date and time. I'll try and make that one.

I am out of it for tomorrow too... ...but still commited to hooking up at the Handlebar or where ever the group deems appropriate. Though you just can't beat the Handlebar for bike culture. Could do weekends. Want to make sure 165-48:17 can join us. Best wishes and a quick recovery to your dad.

So you guys are down for doing this sort of thing in the cold cold winter weather?? I rode all last winter, but I enjoyed the summer so much that I am now dreading piling on all those clothes and gloves and whatnot again. I don't know, I suppose it is invigorating or something.
As far as a get together goes, I work nights so I can't really come out anyways. :(

I only have a problem during the transitions in weather. When it is 30 in the morning and 60 in the afternoon or when you can't remember from last winter what you wore in sub 30 deg temps. Once the winter begins and the temps level out it is easy.
165, hope things go well with your father.
We will reschedule for the Handlebar sometime soon. I'm pretty busy myself, making and prepping stuff for the DIY Trunk Show in Wicker Park (similar to the Renegade Craft Fair recently) this Saturday. I'll be having stuff made from inner tubed there, recycling!
Oh and if you're interested in the Trunk show, you folks should come out: http://poise.cc/diytrunkshow/
