Took a great ride yesterday, in spite of the 50 mph wind gusts.

But, as I turned back and looked north towards Boulder, I saw that huge ugly plume of smoke so characteristic of an out-of-control wildfire.

As I got back, I looked south and west, and coming over my house was another huge plume of smoke.

Both fires were caused by downed power lines from the 80 mph winds.

Over 12,000 folks were evacuated. About 6,000 acres burned. Unknown so far about homes burned near Boulder, only a shed to the southwest.

But this morning, RAIN mixed with some snow - first we have had since August.

I will forego my ride in honor of the rain. Nothing puts a fire out better than rain.

We just got snow in the San Bernardino Mountains. I am looking at it right now, a nice dusting all over the massive bald areas where the fire blazed through. A week ago the temps were in the 90s and today it is 50 and snow in the mountains.

Maybe it'll help put out or control our fires in Southern California.

I can't remember ever having snow in our mountains in October!

Yes, since I live in Highlands Ranch, I started to panic when I saw that huge plume of smoke from the south. The rain came at the right time and it was nice to have cooler temperatures for once.

We had a good down poor yesterday. Hopefuly they will now open the main trail head. They had it closed because there were still some hotspots. It will make for a much more enjoyable ride if they do open the main road so we do not have to go the back way in to the trails.

Gotta love that rain.
