Foo - Men, Do you get Hot Flashes?

My doctor put me on a regimine of Niacin and whenever I forget to take it for a day and then the next time it do take it I get these hot flashes that last for about 1/2 an hour.

I sure can understand (to a certain degree) how the "weaker sex" feel when this happens. The first few times this happened I kind of thought it was cool but it is getting old. I suppose I just need to get my cholesterol down and quit whining.

So any other men here in the same boat? :rolleyes::(

Uhmmm....the niacin is causing the flushing sensation...........fairly harmless stuff...............

How much niacin did you take? Are you sure you are
taking the right dose? Niacin can do that--once I had
to take it to come down off shrooms. Dude--make sure you don't take
too much--

The shroom thing--we were tripping way to hard so my cousin and I
walked across town (Oceanside) to the drugstore and somehow managed to buy
a huge bottle of niacin. On the way home a church bus full of cholos
pulled up and these dudes piled out threatening to kill us--he had ripped
them off. So we ran like hell and I got back to the house on my own and
took like half the bottle--needless to say with all the vomiting I came down
right quick. Later (years later) I asked him "did that really happen--
we got chased by angry cholos right?" and he said "yeah--it was a bad
trip and that really happened." Moral of the story be careful with niacin--and don't do
drugs kids!!! Also don't rip off hair-net wearin' cholos they will cut you!

But yeah--it gave me hot flash type symptoms--at the time that was the least of my
concerns.

Niacin is being used for cardiac care regimen. I believe a serious aount of Omega-3 in prescription dose is also taken with this regimen. Hmmmm...Co Q10 as well I think......eh what do I know anyhow...........

I have prescription doses and some over the counter stuff and I only take the reccomended amount, sure does lower the heating bill though. :)

Last night my nose got all stuffed up and I could only breath out of my mouth, I'm going to talk to my DR. about that.
