I need to buy a hed jet deep or a zip 808 rim. Does anybody know how to go about this. I can only find complete wheels.

please...if you are seriously going to ride it for racing on the track, then go to the track forums and ask there since they actually used that kind of rim for its intended purpose. If you really want the rims, I suggest don't waste your $ just to look cool.

Def not for cool points. I'm 30 so no tight pants and hipster hats for me. When I get out of school I'm going to start going up to pa to learn how to be a legit track racer. Rules and technique. I really enjoyed reading about track racing and watching it when I was a kid. I'm bulding up a pista concept with all campy record minus the wheels. I've got a set to ride for work and am trying to get a set to race on.

Haha.
Zipp 808. For street riding = hilarious. I'm not sure what you're trying to do buying just the rims but I can guarantee you that it'll cost more than if you bought the wheelset complete.

Those wheels in that pic came with the Concept, he only had them on for a very very short time (maybe only for those pictures). He sold them for boku duckets shortly thereafter.
Seriously though, someone had the idea of going to the velo (or road race for that matter) and taking pictures of the really fast dudes on regular, non-pro equipment. "These guys are faster than you and spent much, much less money". I'd say Zipps or HEDs or anything like that is total overkill for someone who is just starting to race on the track. As for where you can get the rims...?

Can you nick a few from the factory during lunch break or something?

Going by what I hear from the roadies, Zipps have a reputation for **** durability and you probably would never want to ride them on the street, although old ones like Zipp 440's from the 90's can be had for pretty cheap prices if you look the right places (less than arrospokz omg!).
But yeah, brand new 808's for a track beginner... overkill. Get aluminum tubulars.

About 440's? I'm considering editting my post, no one knows about that **** and we should keep it that way!!:D

I don't know, I think the demand for 440s is pretty high. I sold my old road 440s on eBay for ~$500 last season. Not super expensive, but not that cheap for carbon wheels.

Theres dozens of sites that sell just the rims.
Also... I would consider nabbing some williamscycling rims as they are rebadged zipps.

That guy put zipps stickers on the flashpoints. weaksauce. (it's made by zipp, but that's like badging a toyota as a lexus.)

Yes, putting the Zipp stickers on them was lame, but other than that who cares? No, they're not top of the line stuff, but Toyotas don't suck either.

Toyotas don't suck is like the biggest oxymoron on the face of the universe.

There is no "other than that." That's was my only point.

One of the other engineers just did that on his urban bike...we've been giving him no end of crap for it.

I feel so sorry for that Bianchi and all others in similar positions. :(

03-25-08, 11:13 PM
Really? You feel bad that Bianchi is making a killing on selling the Concept and doesn't even realize how much demand there is for it?
Seriously, they have no idea all the damn people demanding their Concept '08's. The word I've gotten from bike shop owners talking directly to Bianchi is that they're afraid of making too many.

too many concepts!
That bike is mega sick. I would love it as a coffee shop bike. Just because.

Yeah, finding used track wheels is about the same boat. I've been looking for a rear disc for a while, but I always get outbid by someone with deeper pockets. At this rate, I could buy one new for the same price they're going for on the open market.

Toyotas may be boring, but they definitely don't "suck" by any means. They're solid, boring, fridgelike commuter cars that never break down and get great gas mileage.
I have nothing valid to add to this thread.

Viva la cannibal??? is that mangled on purpose or what?
In Spanish it'd be Viva el caníbal and "la" doesn't work in any language for good old Eddy...

No, I'm glad they're selling, but it's sad to see it's because of a fad/fashion and not actually for the track.

Yay!
To me, it's like carrying... a wrench cause it looks cool and you can do tricks with it (idk).

Yes, and clinchers can be used at the track, and Zipp stickers on Flashpoint rims can be removed if they offend. Flashpoint clincher rims and Toyotas are not "the best", but are more than adequate for the application.
Would a solid pair of tub rims be more appropriate for the OP's needs as a beginning tarck racer? Probably, but that was not the question. Then again the OP said he wanted rims, not a wheelset anyway (presumably to lace to Record hubs).
I guess I'm not qualified to comment in this thread either.

I dont know....I want my bike to look cool. Still dont understand these threads...
Seems over here in Japan there is almost a complete lack of hating, so maybe if
I was back home in OZ I would be scared to run carbon wheels in case someone
told me I was a hipster or something. My friends here run everything from araya, hed
sugino, campa discs, to zipp 808s, and corima 4 spokes, nobody has had any problems
as far as I have heard.
You sell them for what you buy them for anyway, or not much less, as long as they
are still true and undamaged, so it is not a waste
of money. I guess we just look at olympic bikes, and keirin bikes, and admire the beauty of
them, and try to emulate that look. Trying to make your bike look nice is not a crime in
Japan, but rather the #2 pastime, after riding bikes!

Then buy it for the track. Once you start looking at the A & B races, you'll see that about 1/3 of the riders had the same idea. It's a great deal on an aluminum track frame.

I can agree to a point, but if someone wants it because of the way it looks, can you blame them? It's like buying Air Jordans and not playing basketball in them. Or buying Dunk SB's and not being a skater. Or wearing a North Face jacket and living in San Francisco.
Just wait til it goes out of style[i know, everyone is still waiting for this day] and hopefully more concepts will pop up on ebay and craigs!
well. i'm not mad they're doing that nonsense in general. but the fact that they're no where to be found right now lends to my frustration.
if they were a dime a dozen, i could care less. however, only like 3 or 4 '08's are going to make it to san diego. soooooo, not to available.
