I'm looking for any tips from Jandd Extreme owners on how they fit their racks. I just got one for my older Specialized Expedition and it fit pretty well with the exception that the top slopes down toward the rear of the bike. I think if I were to bend the lower attachment arms forward it would kick the bottom back and I could pivot the rack more horizontal. I don't know if it is wise to try and bend the aluminum rod or not though.
Has anyone done any bending on theirs to get a better fit? Any other modification suggestions? I got some nylon bushings to use as spacers from the rack to the mid fork eyelets and that part is good.
Thanks!

i have that rack and it slopes down slightly towards the rear of the bike, but perhaps not as badly as yours...up to a point, though, i'd venture to say that a bit of slope to the rear on a front platform rack isn't really a problem, or at least that it's better than a slope to the front, but then again i don't know how severely yours is sloped.
I use nylon bushings and long bolts for the mid-fork eyelets too (maybe Jandd should include them with the rack). But i wouldn't bend the aluminum rod that goes to the dropout eyelets.

joshben - Thanks for the info that your slope isn't a problem. The slope on mine isn't that bad and it is probably more of an aesthetic thing for me. As long as I can get the lower retaining clip on my REI panniers to keep the bag from sliding back I should be OK. My main concern was having my panniers slide back and pose a problem with clearance for my toes on turns. Once it warms up here I'll have to experiment.

Thanks for the info mijome07. I had seen that thread a while ago but totally missed the part where he bent the rods. I guess it can be done successfully.

bending solid stock alu (as opposed to tubing) once isn't that big of a deal. Bending it repeatedly will bring about fatigue issues.
