Introductions - A Roadie from SF Bay

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hey. I'm Jason, from East Bay Area, SF, California (a 30 minute bike ride from Berkeley).
I ride a Giant OCR2 (http://www.comparestoreprices.co.uk/images/gi/giant-04-ocr-2-giant-road-bike-2004-ocr-2-road-bikes.gif) from (I believe) 2004. I've been riding on and off since I was a kid. My first "real" bike was a BMX single speed that my uncle built for me. I have a lot of fond memories of that bike.
Anyway, now I just ride 10 miles daily to and from work (5 miles each way). I came here to rekindle my fondness of the single speed bike I grew up on. Now, as I read around, I'm thinking about fixies.
So look for me in the SS/Fixie forums!

Thanks East Hill, posted a response there.
5 miles is nothing on a bike, despite my coworker's beliefs. They'll ask where I live and I'll say "by the casino" and their eyes will get wide and go "Really? That's far!".
Pssh, not really, you're just lazy :p

Yes, most of us have encountered that response. I live about eight and a half miles from work (one way), and quite often when I get off work I do not go straight home, but go for about a 25 mile ride.
The first distance is hard enough for people to grasp, but when I tell them I ride longer distances for fun--then they think I am crazy  .

I forgot to say with the "anything else?" question.
I'm hearing impaired I (used to) wear two hearing aids - until I lost one cycling :( and know sign language.

There's at least one other member who's deaf--Curiouswill. He has not been visiting lately, but I think that he is on the road.
There's quite a few members here with significant hearing loss, but I don't know if they know ASL.
One of my sisters, who lives in San Jose, is a certified ASL interpreter, by the way :) .
