Who has done this and what were your methods?

I have a wheel that has been slightly braked on, but with no noticeable signs of wear. I was thinking of using something to remove the brake residue and then just fizz canning it black.

However I am concerned about all the paint just falling off immediately after doing so.

prep prep and more prep to the surface. if a surface is prepped well, it will greatly reduce the likely hood of paint falling off

a few of my friends did this on rims (unlaced). they removed all stickers and cleaned the hell out of the rims w/ simple green, but didn't do anything special to the surface. looked great for awhile, but they stopped riding them after a few months.

The only downside to painting rims is that unless you have super loose fitting tires the paint is gonna chip at the edges when mounting tires, fixing flats etc.

i bought a set of black aeroheads from a friend who had machined the surface with his brake... i bought a black magnum paint marker and markered right over it. looks great.

Never thought of that. That way the tires would not need to be removed.

What should I use to remove the traces of brake residue?
