Wow, shock... ya ride 200-300 miles a month, ya lose weight.
I have a couple of XL club cut jerseys that don't really need to be XL anymore.
Anyone have an idea how to shrink 'em a little?

I take that as a "No"?

edit: Ohhhhh wait, now I get it... it's the weight loss part.
I sometimes wonder where I'd be if I actually ate less to go along with the exercise. Probably down in the 170's by now. Oh well...

First thing you do is find out where the best cafe is on your rides- Pie and Buns will cure the problem.

No wonder you can get up the hills you thought twice about last year.

Well done on the weight loss- but time to celebrate and buy some new cycling clobber.

Are they that big now? I have not had any of my jerseys shrink by any noticable amount.

Congrats on the weight loss!

Forty pounds in 2 years so far, so no big deal, really, but enough that 2 jerseys are now pretty loose.
Yes, no doubt, weighing 185 versus 225 has to have a positive effect on my climbing :D

Lycra doesn't shrink. It might melt if you iron it hot enough.

Options:

1. Find a friendly neighborhood tailor
2. Buy new jerseys

You could gift me the jerseys and feel really good about yourself too!

Buy wool. Then it's automatic.

SKT,
Congrats on your weight loss that has led to this happy conundrum. Unless your jerseys are cotton, you may consider treating yourself to a new jersey or two as a personal reward for your efforts!

Here's what used to work for me when I was younger.
Bring load of laundry to laundromat on Sunday.
Start wash.
Go across the street to bar with an all you can drink bloody mary brunch.
Order omelet and bloody mary.
Watch football and consume omelet.
Order second bloody mary.
Go back to laundromat and put wash in dryer, using enough quarters to get you through 2 football games.
Return to bar, watch games, drink bloody marys.
When football is over retrieve clothes from laundromat.
Guaranteed that after 3 hours in the dryer everything has shrunk.

No, but you can send them to me and they will disappear from your sight!
Similar to getting so small you just can't see them anymore!

You guys do understand you're asking for my GD jerseys, right?

SKT,

Drive across the Bridge to San Rafael. Donate them to the Recyclery/Trips for Kids, on 3rd or 4th street, I think. Then buy some from them. I bought a nifty one there for $10. They have some niftier ones for $25-35.

Actually polyester, which also does not shrink and will also melt.

I've noticed that if I hand my clobber over to Mrs. CW it seems to suddenly get smaller. Something along those lines not an option for you, is it? :)

not only do plastic jerseys not shrink, they never wear out either. I have a cannondale/volvo jersey from about 1990 that still looks new. Too bad that didn't happen with my wool jerseys!

just wear them no matter how large and feel good about your weight loss.

just my $0.02

You're right. I still have the first bike jersey that I ever bought -- a Nike-branded one -- at least 15 years ago. Not only that, it's still one of my favorites since it's made of better material and constructed better than most of the jerseys that you see out there today.

Just wear your baggy jersey with pride -- you've earned it.

I've never been able to shrink any article of clothing that's too big for me no matter how hard I try, but if something fits just right and I really like it, it will surely shrink all by itself.

Lycra doesn't shrink.

It does too.:D
I have many jerseys that I've hung in the closet only to find that a few years later they don't fit.
I couldn't have gotten larger so the jersey must be shrinking.;)

I lost some weight (about 40 lbs) some time back and had some beautiful jerseys I didn't want to give up. So I took them to my local tailor. I think for each one I paid about $20 for alterations but it was well worth the money. Much cheaper than buying a new jersey!

Good idea BCIPam. Since nice jerseys run $50 + it was money well spent.

Suggest you frame those 2 XL jerseys as a reminder!
Still have the first jersey I ever bought, way back in early 1970s; has 3 pockets on the rear and 3 pockets on the front . . . with buttons on them! Yup, it still fits just fine

All my trousers shrank this winter.
