There is tons of titanium, clouds of carbon, swarms of steel.....but if you ride magnesium....you know you're the only kid on the block that's got it. And if you've got more money than brains (and I have seen some of these guys in action, we are talking waay more money than brains) that alone will make it worthwhile. Bet it rides like the early Cannondales (bone crushers).

I've heard that magnesisum is supposed to give a very steel or titantium-like ride, becuase they can use smaller, more comfortable tubes, becuase magnesium is stronger.

Sixteen THOUSAND dollars?

That's more than all FOUR of our cars are worth, more than the quote to put cement tile on our huge roof!

Maybe if I win an 80 million dollar lottery. . .

Jeez that's more than the down payment on our house was!

I can't believe that magnesium can make that much of a difference, but if you have more money than brains. . . oh well.

I was saying that tongue in cheek. This from a guy riding a Sora equipped Fuji. I just couldn't fathom that much money for a bike.

So now magnesisum is now the next big thing? What happen to scandium? wasn't that going to be the material that was lighter than alu and stiffer than ti and a smoother ride than carbon?

Sixteen THOUSAND dollars?. . .

I gotta add though, if someone were to buy/give me one, I'd use it!

And fer sure it would have to be no strings attached.

Anyone offering? I sure as he!! know my husband won't be offering and even if he did, there'd be WAY to many strings attached!

I knew that!

I ride a "customized" Giant Boulder with fat road tires on it. The saddle I have on it right now cost half as much as the bike did!

Hmmm, new saddle, new stem/riser, rack and rack trunk, new tires and tubes--my accessories cost more than the bike did! What does that mean?!?

I don't think that magnesium will be the next big thing though, at least not yet. Magnesium still has crazy corrosion problems, about 100x worse then steel. I remember easton made a mg stem, and all i read about it on the review sites was its horrible corrosion, about how after two weeks, green spots showed up and swallowed the stem. or something like that.

forgot to mention this: extremely flammable too. don't smoke and ride at the same time :D

A physics grad student once told me that Scandium was aluminum perfected. Yeah, right. But hey, it's used in the nose cones of SLBMs, landing gear of carrier-based aircraft, and the step-ladders of UFOs.

An aluminum frame shouldn't cost more than a few hundred dollars. But throw in some fancy symbols from the periodic table and/or some carbon 'stays and you can charge $2500 for it.

Talking of magnesium frames, does anyone remember these?
