Road Bike Racing - Tour De Moore - we all race against each other.

No Cat 5s or one day license but I will be racing against everyone (4 to Pro) between the ages of 30-39.

There's also a 40+ and a 50+ race with a 60+ bonus.

This should be a painful 70 miles. :D :) :o :(

No USAC categorized races this year = weak.

So is it not a USAC race? I mean I see that they have a USAC permit pending but is there no race for people under 30?!?! (Not that it matters to me, I could race in the 40+ this year if I were in shape)

This race has a bad enough reputation after last year's fiascos!

Do tell. I've never heard of this race before.

Apparently there was heartburn after last year's problems with run in markings for the masters, 3/4 and women's fields. Riders got lost/turned off as the course wasn't marked, and there was a housing development with orange cones along the road that many turned onto. This wasn't the race route. Riders complained. To clarify that was THREE different race fields that all were thrown off by the poor course marking.

Also, apparently the P1/2 field was smaller than desired due to competing regional races.

This all leads to what I think is an unfortunate mistake in running a master's only event.

People were finishing the races every which way - across the line backwards, coming in the side, and taking various ways across the finish line.

Where is the info regarding this year's Tour of Moore event?

I may save myself the trouble then. My schedule is tight and I'd rather race something a little less, uh ... sucky.

It did suck last year but previous years it was a pretty good race. IT ends at a street festival too which I always thought was cool.

Dampen the overreaction. It's a good race, in a good town, with a neat town festival at the same time lending to a good atmosphere.

If you've never been to a race that didn't have a problem or two, count yourself lucky.

The racers. The promoters were simply not-acting last year.

In seriousness, the fiasco from last year was a one-off, with a large part due to the police officers not doing their job. Apparently they decided to not man their stops/intersections (that is what I heard from organizers as well as some of the racers).

So you don't think that converting the race into a Master's only format with age groups rather than categories is an overreaction to the problems and complaints?

I don't see any official information on this race yet. Plus, I think that is probably an overassessment. There are a number of races that do not have a Cat5 race. And I've seen races where there is a Master's Category, which if you want to race Masters, you race all (P/1/2/3/4) with whatever or multiple age ranges.

For sure this will not be a "Master's Only" format race. There would be a multitude of leftout racers (collegiate, young guys who don't fear going to work Monday with a broken shoulder) = left out money to put on the event. This is likely just a change of format. By not having multiple Master's classes (multiple categories, multiple ages, and combinations thereof) they will probably save time and money by running less races, less officials' time, less officers' time.

Yes it does.

As far as I can remember the Tour de Moore never had a cat 5 field. I know this for a fact because the first year I went there I wanted to race Masters and they said that I could not because I was a cat 5 and they had no cat 5 field so I was SOL till I talked to one of the officials who knew me from cyclocross racing and catted me up on the spot based on my cross resume. That's why I never raced a cat 5 race :D

Yeah, it's an overreaction. No love for guys like ilpirata, snuff, and myself: we're all under 30. However, at the risk of shameless self-promotion, check out the flyer for the race that my team (Triangle Velo) is putting on the day after Tour de Moore. It's a downtown crit in Sanford that is more or less a replacement for Meadowmont since speed bumps went in on the Meadowmont course. We will have races for all categories, and barring unforeseen issues, anyone in cats 3-5 will have the option to race twice if you so desire. I hope to see you all out there!

A "slight uphill finish" isn't much of a substitute for Meadowmont :p

No, it's not- I wish we could have put something on in Southern Village (perhaps next year- we tried but couldn't get momentum for something there). Bigger hills there than M'mont :)
