Foo - Engaged!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Got engaged yesterday!
Took my girlfriend for a walk in a park down along the Lake Ontario shoreline - found a nice rock to sit on by the frozen water - chatted for a bit - and asked!
Dead pleased really.
Now I need to stop buying bicycle bits for a while so that we can make a feeble attempt at affording a wedding...

I see you're originally from the UK. Are you guys planning on staying in Ontario for a while or will you be moving back to the UK?
Congratulations! I wish the both of you a long and happy marriage.

Heh... Complicated that one.
I'm originally from the States but live in the UK. The lovely lady in question is British, but lives in Canada. We used to both live in the UK together. She's currently in her last year of a masters at McMaster University (where I am sat at this very moment, visiting for Easter and proposals) in Ontario. She's been accepted to do a PhD programme in Washington, DC. So this summer I'll be moving down there to build a nest and earn some money and she's following along in the autumn. But we'll be getting married in England.
It'll be odd living in the States again, though easy in the don't-need-a-visa-or-my-retina-scanned sort of way. I don't even know how the mobile phone system or modern banking works anymore in the US. Or competitive cycling, for that matter... Or paying for health care! It'll also be a bit more awkward for me to tease the Americans in the Road Cycling forum, as I'm prone to do...
(I'm taking suggestions for DC area road clubs and low-key racing teams, if anyone has any gossip...)

from what i've been watching on the news, about as poorly as in the UK.

Congratulations! As to DC clubs, you might PM Dr. Pete- I haven't seen him around lately, at least not in Foo, but he also hangs out in the Road Racing Forum. He seems to know the 'hood in DC pretty well.

Bad metaphor.
Congrats nonetheless. By the way, don't get carried away with the 'I have to stop buying bike schwag' stuff.

Congrats and best wishes for you both. Let me guess, she was willing to overlook the addiction to schag because of your body? :D

Yeah, I was in touch with him a while back. He was trying to get me to move to his development in the MD burbs, but I'm too Metro-dependent to go anywhere beyond walking distance of a station. I think I've seen guys from his team in Rock Creek Park while visiting DC in the past.

She understands that there will be several bikes in the house. :)
Though she also wants a bright red road bike. We've looked at a CAAD8 with 105 that's nicely red in a LBS near where she lives that fit and was on sale, but we'll be rather short on cash for a while as we'll be sorting out a move to DC and a wedding in the forthcoming future...

Congrats! Let me warn you though, there's a universally accepted theory that wedding cake can severely dampen a woman's sex drive. Maybe have a wedding pie or a wedding pudding? Wedding cookies? :D
