who has one and what are yer thoughts? there is a thread in the gadgets forum but i wanna hear from people i know. i am waaaay too close to pulling the trigger on one of these(mostly based on the battery life) and the fact that the street level mapping seems to work well when being used in a car as well(for those of us who are prevehicle GPS...). ive spoken briefly with awiner abou his, but more opinions are always appreciated!!!!

1st generation firmware, loaded with features of dubious utility, expensive - what could be the downside?

It's still calling you -

If there's no phone signal, you're SOL. Doesn't tell you much up in the Angeles Forest.

Scoot,, get the 705 and let us all borrow if for hmmm 4-6 weeks at a time. Then you don't have to go through the pain of writing the review.

AmI the only one trying to help this poor man with his tech-envy sickness?

I got lost in Griffith Park this morning. I mistakenly ended up in the cage at the zoo where they keep the Liger.

Listen luddite, you ride a carbon bike and you love it. Without new technology, where would we be?

Caves, that's where.

Ever website says July release but I saw a couple on ebay last week that sold for over retail (looks like they're trickling in). There are still a few Garmin egde 605's on there for sale.

I talked to Scoot a bit about the 705... I've been using the 705 for a few weeks now.

Pro's vs the 305:

Longer battery life.
True street level mapping with the USA/Canada SD Data Card.
1000's of points on interest so you can find Starbucks fast!
True address destination navigation.
Larger screen.
Color screen.
ANT+ for power meter display.
Garmin 705 to Garmin 705 ANT+ transfers. You can now exchange you data/courses with the touch of a button.
Much better PC integration. Your PC sees the Garmin as a removable drive both for the 705 and the SD memory card.
Better interface/input method using the new center joystick button.
Works great off the bike as well.

Cons vs the 705:

A bit larger but the screen more than makes up for the small size difference.
Pricey, especially now that the 305 will drop in price.
Thats the only cons so far.

Have you used the new Garmin Connect service yet? Any thoughts on that?

Garmin Connect is still in beta. It is pretty but not as robust as Motion Based yet.

Yeah, I saw one of the public activities. It looked pretty weak, didn't know if there was more to it. I assume there will be, eventually. They make good hardware, but their software developers are well, I'll be nice and assume they're understaffed.

Did you use a couple of small balls to entertain the liger?

Just curious how you got out of that very dangerous situation and all...and so relieved that you did. :)

If you want color and a bigger screen and street maps just go for it. And you can talk to it too.

Personally, for the bike, I think this is a much better buy. http://www.ibikesports.com/detail.aspx?ID=26 I now have wireless as this link. Great stuff. Since I dont need mapping on my rides this makes more sense. Havent touched my Garmin in 6 months. It is also already 705 compatable, and uses the Ant system.

The ibike pro is $700. With the recent drop in PowerTap prices, I think the PT may be a better buy though it carries with it the usual PT caveats (locked in to one rear wheel).

The 705 is tempting since I get lost all the time... but I already have 2 bike computers and a GPS car nav unit. :p

Yes, but I can use the Ibike on my mt bikes as well as the fixed gear and track bike. ;)

That can be slove with a program you can download.... where the webpage can be saved as a document. Downside- you have to know how to read short-handed chinese script. :D I can send you / anyone link if you want to give it a try.

BTW, I thought the iphone will soon come out with a GPS adoptor....Is that true?
