A question for San Diego folks... I was checking out the street view of the bridge to Coronado Island and it looked bike-unfriendly. Would someone confirm whether you can ride this comfortably or not?

Agreed with Grumpy,
The bridge is a death trap for a cyclist. If I recall correctly, bicycles are not allowed on it. Even if they are, there are very large gaps in the bridge that will swallow your tire (they are built into the bridge for both drainage and tectonic shift). You can go the long way around - Coronado is not an island, after all, it's a peninsula.
The ferry is much safer of an experience if you want the more direct route.

The long way around through Imperial Beach is no picnic either. There is really no direct route from downtown. Once you get to the penninsla, there's a great bike path running all the way north to the city of Coronado. Coronado itself is great to pedal. I agree, take the ferry. The bridge is closed to pedestrians and bikers anyway- too many Jumpers!

Also, the only time I ever rode up the peninsula there was a stiff headwind the whole way. I assume that's pretty common.

depends what time of day you went, morning rides have light winds, but about lunch there is heavy winds from the NE that blow through the bay.
Thanks again, I found getting around very easy on bike (traveled between Santa Fe Depot, Hilton Gaslamp, Coronado).
