Hey Everyone,
Got my new Sidi Genius 4's in the mail today (great looking shoe!) but I'm just a little concerned with fit. I tried on a pair of silver ones at a local bike shop and they seemed to fit perfectly. Because I wanted black and the shop wouldn't order any more, I ordered them through an online dealer. 42 is the size I tried on and have now. I used to use Sidi Bullet shoes for mtn. biking which were a size 41 and they were really tight. Anyways now that I'm trying them on (wearing as I write this) I can just feel the tips of my toes against the end of the shoe and I'm not wearing socks(though they're nearly so tight as my other ones) so I'm wondering if this will create problems for me when my feet get hot? How should they fit... I'm wondering if I'd be better off going for a half size bigger, but then a little scared they might not be good for width. They fit perfectly other than the length. Can anyone advise me here, what would you do?

I had the same issue and the guy at the LBS told me that being tight is a bit OK. He did not want me to have too much room so that my heel would come out at all. I got the megas so the width is fine but I am a bit concerned about the length too. He said that if my feet swell its better to have room in the width then length, that is why I got the Mega(made for wider feet). I have done a couple of 40 milers in them and no problems so far.

The only thing I could suggest is to loosen the ankle strap, not at the buckle side, the other side. That will give you a little more width.

For what it's worth, fantastic shoes. I've had mine for a good couple of months, best shoes I've ever had.

You want your toes just touching the front of the shoes. Just. Because your foot will not move around in the stiff soled shoe like it will in a running shoe for example. If there is too much room, your foot will slid forward and it will open up the heel area. Also, put the velco straps on first before you snap down the arch strap. Your foot will "settle" in the shoe much better.

BTW, the shop would not make you a sale by ordering what you wanted? Goodness. I order stuff all the time but the customer has to pre-pay so we don't get stuck with the item if they don't come back, for example.
Amazing.

Ahhh my mistake, I should have been more clear with my term "bike shop", in fact I tried them on at MEC which is a multi-faceted outdoor shop that only sells what it brings in and does not, as a rule, do special orders. Sorry for the confusion.

Sounds like the tightness is ok, from what I've read. As a said, it's not tight enough that I'm in pain, it's just that i feel my toe against the tip of the shoe a little and it's an odd feeling when you're used to runners which don't feel the same way. I experience almost no heel slippage whatsoever, and I imagine that a half size larger would exascerbate this problem, which if I understand correctly would cause more harm than it would allievate. Thanks for your input everyone, I'll hold onto the shoes!

can you put a regular sock on and still fit?

i don't have any cycling socks just yet.. the ones I tried the shoes with at MEC were defeet socks and felt fine. so that's probably what I'll go with to buy. I haven't tried them with regular socks because I thought that would be too tight for sure, are you suggesting trying them out with regular socks to stretch the shoes or just wondering about the fit?

I think they sound a tiny bit too small. Shoes hardly stretch at all anymore, not like they used to when they were made of leather. I'd consider 1/2 size larger...I know it will be a pain but it will be a bigger pain if you ride with the other ones several times, find out they don't fit when your feet swell and then they probably won't take them back. Good luck.
