Northern California - Peugeot Frames

Hey everyone,

I am curious if anyone in the San Francisco bay area might happen to have a 1970s Peugeot frame (PX-10, UO-8, Recorde du Monde, etc.) around 49cm that they might be willing to sell me for a reasonable price to help me start off my first building project. I am especially interested in a green one, but I know it is hard to find those.

yup, but they made bikes first. Until 1986 I believe.

Craigslist. If you can't find a peugeot frame in the SF area, I don't know what to tell ya. They're everywhere.

They still sell bikes under the Peugeot name in Europe.

My sister has a Puegot mountain bike thats been sitting on the side of her house for as long as I can remember.. Don't know anything more then that. I know its a Puegot though, what are you looking for? Mountain / Road?

As you were told in the other thread you started about this, it will be both difficult and expensive to find French standard parts. This is a very bad idea of yours. Save yourself a lot of trouble and find a frame that takes English standard parts.

Unless it is a late model, you are buying some potential problems. French bikes have some "quirks".

Ziemas and barba already said it, -> bad idea. My first good road bike was a mid-70's PX-10. Great bike for its time, 531 db, Stronglight, thankfully no Simplex...but the French threads and dimensions will make finding certain parts, if you need them, somewhat problematic, even though you're stripping it down to be a fixie. You could do better, value-wise, too. On top of that, I swear most of the Peugeots of the time were white/black.

Heh, I've always been someone to try and do what people say I shouldn't do or shouldn't be able to do. So all this telling me it is a bad idea is just giving me more inspiration to do it. =) If everything in the world were easy where would be all the fun?

As for the mainly black and white thing. This may be. I just wasn't sure if the color ones I saw (especially the record du monde) were repaints or originals since they had factory decals on them. And yes I know you can buy the factory decals.

I hear what you are saying, but this isn't climbing Mt. Everest. Dumping money into a bike that isn't that nice will just make you sad. Trust me. If you go forward, at least try to find one with decent tubes and standard threading. There are literally thousands of these things around, so pick carefully.

Oh of course. I am gonna still be smart about it. If it works it works. If not, well there are plenty of other bikes out there.

Well, went on over to bike kitchen today. They said that they get people doing french bikes often enough and usually get such an assortment of parts in that it shouldn't be a problem. Just need to find the frame still.

So, I would like to return to this topics original purpose: finding a Peugeot road bike frame.

If anyone could help me out with any leads I would be more than grateful.
