This applies to the 2004 Elite with the insert in them.

Well I was getting refitted on my bike at a friend of mines house(he is a coach/trainer) and he was adjusting my seatpost and he goes uhhhooo this thing is cracked. Sure enough we pulled it out and the carbon was splitting. So I take in to my LBS where I bought the bike and they were like hmmmmm that’s weird. They gave me a loaner seatpost and sent me on my way. About 2 weeks later I called LBS to see what is up and they tell me that Specialized has seen this before and it’s a product defect. So I ask are they going to change the design and do a recall? He said that they were probably going to change the design since they would not have any for a while. I hope that they do because I don’t want to be worry about my seat post blowing up on me on some fast ride. And what about all the others out there… do they recall them? Does that happen on bikes?

Anyone else have this problem?

Thanks
chaz

Right about where the warning line is for height. I also asked if there was a weight limit on these and they said no.. I weigh about 190 so I was concerned about that.

They do re-calls of sorts sometimes I think. I havea Cannondale and I registered it. A few months later they sent me a note about the refletors. They said to make sure they were tight on the spokes because they could fly off and kill you or something. I personally don't keep those "happy" components on my bike, but it was nice to know they care.
