Phil here. I'm riding again. My old Ritchey came off the wall about a year ago and hasn't been hung up since. Not a ton of riding, but more every week. The other night I found a 2 year-old Surly Cross Check on Craigslist; it followed me home. We we went for a ride yesterday . . . I like it.

Anyway, I've been away from riding for a few (12) years and am in the dark(ish) regarding bike culture and gear. I worked in bike shops, on and off, for 15 years, last in 1995. At that time I had a daughter about to enter college and needed to earn more money. I've been repairing high-tech automated manufacturing equipment since. The pay is nice, but the work environment leave a bit to be desired. If you work in semicondutor mfg you know what I mean.

Commuting was something I did and enjoyed for a long time. Again, gave it up but am getting back to it. Used to to MTB touring when I lived in SoCal. Road from my house in Huntington Beach down to Newport, hopping the ferry to Catalina for a week of island camping and riding. Not sure that's allowed anymore. In any event, I'm happy to be back on the bike. Phil out.

Hi Phil, don't worry, you will catch up quickly enough on the culture and gear! Just remember that there's a lot subset of us here who still love those bikes you probably worked on 'back in the day'!

At any rate, come on and visit us in the PNW regional forum. A huge number of us from Seattle and Portland, and points in between :D . There's a couple of other members in Eugene.

Welcome back to bicycling! And I seem to have that problem too, darn bikes keep following me home - in fact I cannot go by this one LBS because there's a nice yellow Enduro that wants to follow me home!

Wow, this forum is overwhelming. Talk about sensory overload . . . I've been checking out different areas. There are so many sections I don't know what to read first. Looking for info on cantilever theory/adjustment I found Sheldon's site. That led to his journal. I wish I had known the man.

So, it seems like I'll be reading, searching, posting, enjoying the forum. Happy to be here.

p.s. Where should I look for an info and opinions on pedals?

There is a LOT going on here. Most of us have a favourite forum or two, and concentrate on our main interests. I'm a bit of an oddball because I ramble all over this board.

Uh...pedals. Try asking/looking in the Road Cycling forum. Search first. You'll get a lot of various opinions on pedals.
