Iam thinking about converting my 8spd santana with bar cons to 9 spd with brifters would I need to change the rear derailleur also .??

*Long answer: No; all 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10-speed Shimano rear derailleurs are interchangable (except pre-9-speed/1997 Dura Ace).
