Foo - Hey.. computer technophiles and IT savants, I got something that you will never have.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

And it's likely going to stay that way .. (for a while at least).
^^ The give-one-get-one offer expired at the end of December, '07 ..

I waited exactly three months (to the day) .. the order was placed Xmas eve of last year.. And the box has just now arrived.
Now I have a both macbook -- and one of the coolest devices known to man. I'm going to get so many chics with this thing..
Them: ''Oh, what is that..?''
me: - An XO-1 lap-top.
Them: ''Where did you get it?''
me: - It was given to me because I purchased an XO-1 laptop for a child who resided in either Haiti, Libya or Peru.
Them: ''I want to have your child''
me: -Yes, they all do..

Apparently there is some other source for OLPCs... I offered to help people at my college build a central wireless server for them, as well as show them how to write code for the Sugar interface.
Personally, I'd buy one if I had a kid, but for me, I'd go for an EeePC because of the bigger keyboard if I needed a low end laptop like that.

.....So you're jealous, right? .:D -?
I'd go for an EeePC because of the bigger keyboard if I needed a low end laptop like that.I was under the impression that the OLPC notebook was semi-full-size-ish, while the EeePC is more pocket-sized. But I've never seen either in person, and photographs can be deceiving. :)

Well, jealous in a "I'd love to keep one in the box if I had a kid" way, and perhaps jealous because it would be cool to write some games on it.
Its a cool laptop regardless.
The OLPC keyboard is definitely smaller than a normal keyboard, the keys are about 50-60% the size of normal ones. I'm not sure on the EeePC key layout, as I've not seen one in person.
Ideally, the best form factor for a laptop I've ever used was a Thinkpad 365XD, although it could be made a little thinner. It was big enough to easily type on, but not so large that it was a PITA to stuff in a satchel or backpack.

I've never heard of an EeePC, but yes - the OLPC is a bit smaller than I expected. It's about 3/4 the size of my macbook.
You can get a better idea of the actual proportions from the videos.
videos from the BBC on OLPC Nigeria (http://www.technorati.com/videos/youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3Dtkbn4mY6U0s)
And, an even better video (http://www.technorati.com/videos/youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DBBoghPvyhts)
