Good riddance. He had more than enough chances.

Hmmmm...

Don't you think he wanted to get banned? I thought that he could be pretty funny...but at some point (on serious threads) it got annoying, like a five year old under the dinner table when the adults are trying to talk.

And what about the new people coming through the forum every day? What do they think of a poster like him?

+1 I think it's bull**** that he was banned, personally. I, too, have met and ridden with him and he's a very nice young guy doing his thing. On the SB century last year, he was thoughtful of the other riders who were struggling up Casistas Pass and very respectful and sweet to me. He is also very smart. He isn't for everyone and he pushes it (something I often do, too, so I'm not bothered by it), but to ban him permanently is too much. Of course, the mods may just be tired of having to deal with him and thought this the best thing to do.

I'm not sure who ultimately decides here who stays and who goes...

Who looks and says "Is this member following the terms of use?"

The individual poster decides if he or she want to stay. I belong to several forums, they discuss the same subject, but I don't spend an equal amount of time on each one because...I don't like all of them equally.

Who looks and says "Is this member following the terms of use?"
The forum owner or his designee?

Yes.

I think banning him was a little harsh but it's not my site.

Perhaps there needs to be some intelligent judgment of when and where to be provocative, and when not to. I think that's the critical part that separates other people here (who can be provocative, quirky, whatever) and the situation with Ovoleg (now ex-member).

Once you get a couple of temporary bans under your belt, you learn to change your style a bit or you are well aware what you're headed for.

True and I'm not saying he wasn't aware. But as it's been pointed out, there are far better, more subtle and malicious trolls on here who, even after being reported several times, are left to roam freely.

The difference is all the other previously reported agressors have changed their posting styles since being notified, at least publicly.

Yes, perhaps at one time or another, temporarily. But not nearly as consistently and unwaveringly as Ovo. And certainly not after multiple temporary bans, which, for most people, would have served as more than enough warning to change one's style.

I think the mods here gave him plenty of slack; it's unfortunate that he chose to use that slack to hang himself. Personally, I was fine ignoring him (usually), but if he's not smart enough to read the writing on the wall, then...

Correction...after being notified several times. ;)

As for Ovo, I will concede that his not conforming got him booted (his own doing), but none of what he did was malicious, and somehow I just can't agree he deserves permanent ban. Just my two cents and now I'll zip it.

Hey Mary, I never said you two couldn't hang out, I just said that I believe that Ovo's an idiot and I'm glad he's gone. I really find it hard to believe that you'd say we're all the same as that moron, is that what you meant by the glass houses remark? If we're all on the edge of getting banned, well bring it on, I don't post here 22.15 times a day and could get along fine without living on an internet forum. Sorry this has made people take sides, but Ovo was one angry boy and he flaunted his very polarizing persona here all the time. Maybe 1 in 20 posts of his were in any way positive.

I'll say it again...I'M GLAD HE'S GONE!:)

Did that really hurt anyones feelings?

No. Not mine...:)

I liked Ovo's schtick sometimes, as I said, but I didn't know him and ride with him. Is that the problem?

That's kinda the thing some people around this SoCal Forum always come back to, isn't it? Who knows each other and rides together?

I love how some people say in one breath that they don't take things seriously, then in the next, they take every post to the dime - and my posts in particular.

Ralph, the use of glass houses wasn't telling you or anyone on here that you're a moron. It meant, "you all are on here (hello, a public forum shooting the crap - not like this a political roundtable), and none of us posts perfectly all the time, and all of us are juvenile at times." Can you live with that?

Oh, and I don't think Ovo is a moron.

Now, I got it. ;) Thank you for the clarification! You and some others are glad he's gone and that he is. Let the festivities begin.

... my foes...There's one of your problems. Most of us are just here to chat and have a good time. Sometimes it's bike related (organizing group rides, etc.), and sometimes not (kind of like a local "Foo" section).

Most of us don't used to know each other. If we had marked people that have differing opinions as foes/enemies, we probably never would have come out together to ride our bikes. Instead, it would probably be death matches and all threads in here would be like war zones... Kind of like how a few threads have turned into recently.

Chill out. No one is here to get you.

I'm guessing anyone who uses "foes", "ye gods", and "pedestrian" in a sentence is shooting off the cuff, somewhat like botto in Road Cycling. Of course, some people think botto is funny, and others want to stalk him incessantly.

I think I may have gotten my idiom wrong.
