Last week there was a thread about tires bursting due to over exposure to heat, and someone said they regularly inflate their tires to 30 psi above the rated pressure...if I remember right.

I have only exceeded the rated pressure on a tire one time, and I had a blowout 5 miles into that ride, and have never done it again. Of course, I'm a clyde and I usually run 700 x 28 or 32mm tires that only take around 90psi....slow but comfy.

Just curious if any of you guys regularly exceed the max rated pressure on tires and get away with it.

It is usually safe to exceed the max pressure listed on sidewalls. Exceptions due to bad tires, non-hooked rims

I would just recommend a better tire. Also, make sure you aren't doing any large descents where your rims will heat up due to brake friction (I've blown properly inflated tubes on large downhills before).

The "bursting pressure" on a tire is supposed to be at least double the recommended pressure, so it is usually ok to exceed by a bit. A larger volume/diameter tire like the 28's or 32's that you ride will tolerate overinflation better than a narrow racing tire.
