Had a new and happy experience yesterday on the commute home.....

Warmer weather brings the kids out to play more. Here I am just easing down the road on the ride home and these kids were out and caught sight of me a half-block away. They came running down the sidewalk and then stayed fairly close for a couple of minutes (I wasn't going fast - it'd been a long day at work). They were goin' crazy - "cool bike", "wow mister", "what is that?" and other stuff. Like I had my own cheering section. :D

A nice change after having most 'adults' stare like I'm the craziest/weirdest thing they have ever seen. Had one the other day take his hands off the steering wheel and literally turn in the car seat as I went by - glad I wasn't going the same way.

I never get tired of the kids, and sometimes adults, admiring my Lightning P-38 and my Linear. I know some don't care for the 'extra' attention but I like to know that i made a good choice in bike selection. : )

One nice thing about the 'extra' attention - since I never seen another bent in my town - is people tend to give me LOTS of room since they don't know what I am. I ride a 4 mile stretch of US 11 55 mph, nice wide smooth shoulder that I ride in, 1 lane each way with a center turning lane and many, many times I have cagers go in to the center turn lane giving an extremely wide berth.

The thing is, 10 miles north is another town where they have a fair number of bent riders. Admittedly, they are mostly Mennonites and Amish - who'd a thunk it.
