I got 2 rims from Velocity yesterday,and due to TG's recent discussions about them coming in overweight,I hung them on the scale,still wrapped.
1070 g's for both with wrapping,so they are close to spec.Black ano,36 hole,so maybe they came off a new extrusion die.
Speaking of anodising, I had some Mavic rims in the early 90's that were ano'd,and they cracked around the eyelets. I seem to remember the CD ano finish caused the aluminum to get brittle,and cracking was a problem.
I wanted to order the bright silver non ano rims from Velocity,but they were out and didn't know how long it will be until they have more. Reluctantly, I took the black ano ones, but I sure will watch them.
I have some nipple washers I plan to use-I've always wanted to try them on non eyeletted rims,so I bought all 3 sizes.Seems like a good idea to me,but time will tell.
Our last tandem had 40 hole rims and I had no problems,so I went down to 36. My theory is you don't know how far you can go until you go too far, so I'll pursue that path.
