Any idea what this Mercedes is? I saw it through a front window of a guy's garage of collections. It's obviously old.

Looks like a variation of the CW311 prototype, concept car by Isdera

The one you picture may be pre Isdera, maybe built by Buchmann, designed by Schulz, founder of Isdera.

This guy's garage had some gun looking cars. The room was a mess though.

I love to find places like that. I used to hang out with a guy that loved Ferraris. Dallas has a great Ferrari tuner/modifier by the name of Bob Norwood. He did some crazy stuff with their cars. Took a Ferrari 288 and shoe horned a twin turbo charged big block chevy full race motor into it, then took it to the Bonneville Salt Flats and the thing went so fast it got air borne!
He also built a Ferrari Testa Rossa based dragster!

Look at the vented fenders on the one you picture and then go to GiantCFR's version. Vents seem to be lacking. Door handle treatment seems different, and it carries the MB badge, not the Isdera bird. Also, the one GiantCFR shows does not have that roof mounted mirror. I think it is most likely an Isdera, but not necessarly a 1984 Imperator.

You need to check out "Dome". They build some incredible cars. I used to ride past their old factory here in Kyoto (they've moved to Shiga Pref.) I suspect the racing Honda NSX's were developed there as there were "Honda Racing" trucks parked there daily. ;)

Link?
Another friend of mine just about killed himself when he lost control of his NSX and ran into the back of a semi truck and trailer.
Another used to race Indy Cars, and has a few really neat cars. One of which is a Porsche 911 Cabriolet that has some rather serious engine mods that allow it to run VERY fast.
I wish I was rich and could have fun toys.:D
I have a Ford Freestyle that cannot get out of it's own way.

Well, look at this link. This one has the Mercedes badge and is identified as the Imperator 108i. It is very similar the OP's picture, but doesn't have the little exhaust thingies on the side. I think they're all one-offs, there are so many variants!

I had a look at jsharr's link...the blue one under Lauder has the same wheels, but then the silver FIA GT car lower has the same exhaust holes but has vents in the front mudguard. :o

I think that a lot of these cars were probably one off designs and had lots of variation from model to model.

jsharr: Sorry, I was a little confused. Your original link said CW311 prototype, but on that page I didn't even notice that they used the model name "Imperator 108i" (but from 1978). I just used CW311 as a jumping off point for my own googling, which led me back to the same site and I didn't even notice! So the question wasn't really the model name, but the year and variant, if in fact the variant might have had its own designation. But it appears that there were multiple body styles that all had the same model name.
Agreed. I think we can just sum this up by agreeing that you and I are the most awesome google searchers ever.
Thanks for getting us started Giant!
Cheers to all.:beer::beer:

taht's what happens when a delorian and a lamborgini have sex! horrible ain't it?
The Mercedes referred to in this thread is actually (in my opinion) a lot better-looking than most of the aggressive, bland, or aggressively bland designs the company puts out today. The taillight cluster and the lack of razor-edge styling cues are about the only things that date it, really.

I do believe that particular model is the Isdera Penisextender 101i
