Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - My project bike

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
My mom was coming home yesterday when she spotted a bike in someone's trash. I had often talked of converting an old road bike to singlespeed, so she was thoughtful enough to pick it up. It fits. I have no idea what it is, though.
It has some nice horizontal dropouts. The headset is in decent condition, and so is the bottom bracket and cranks. I need to learn to build wheels though, unless i find a good deal on the rear spacing. I still need to measure that, BTW.

I don't lnow what kinda bike that is.
I do know this, your Mom is a KEEPER!
That curved top tube looks pretty cool.
I would repaint it and ditch the 1pc crank.

oh ya, BTW that looks like an awesome frame. i really like the curved top tube.
you should definately learn to build your own wheels....its a great skill to have!

yeah, it is a cottered crank. It was a pain to get off.
And, yeah, I'm reading Barnett's manual for wheelbuilding now. I didn't learn too much from the one on Sheldon Brown's website, although his website is great.

gerd schraners "the art of wheelbuilding" is a really good book on the subject..thats how i learned
Rampar was a division of Raleigh, mid to late 70's I think.
They were an asian built frame. The curved top tube
is interesting, one doesn't see too many of those with
horizontal drops.
Personally I like the Jobst Brandt wheel building book,
but Sheldon Brown's web site and any maintenance book
should give you enough info to actually build a set of wheels.
