So ... where are you going on tour next? Will it be a weekend tour next weekend? A longer tour next month or the one after? Not doing any touring at all till fall? Whenever it is ... and whatever length it is ... where are you going?

(Yes, I just got back from one. Yes, I'm itching to go again. So I thought I'd see where everyone else is going next. :))

My next tour might be a weekend tour in ... July, I think, maybe. And IF I do that one, it will be in the Logan's Pass area.

I will be doing short tours in the Outaouais region of Quebec and Rideau Lakes region of Ontario. Come September I am taking time off to cycle, but no clue where or how long. Maybe Route Verte in Quebec, maybe the Pyrenees or Europe once again, maybe South America or maybe something big! I am thinking I may pack all my stuff again, put my studies on hold and go off for a long one. Only time will tell and I am getting very excited as I have the money in the bank and I almost have a bike ready!

I'm doing a week long tour of South Carolina starting in Greenville hitting 5 or 6 state parks (one in GA) and then back to Greenville. A sort of loop route. I'm hoping for the middle of May but it might be the first week of June.

9 or 10 days with my oldest boy along the Qu'Appelle valley at the end of June. It will be his first tour.
About 640km total with three camping locations. Should be a nice relaxing trip.

Big and small...My next overnight trip is one I'm leading at end of May titled "Gravel Roads of Weld County". The idea is to invite members of my cycling club to do a "mini-tour" on quiet roads through prairie grasslands.

My next one week trip is not precisely determined (I'm doing a week long event, "Ride the Rockies" in June but that doesn't count since gear is carried) but most likely a week of self-supported touring towards end of this summer.

In 2006, I left behind a bicycle in Russia. So dreaming of a ~2010/2011 trip starting in Russia and crossing Kazakhstan into China. In any case, my next one to two month long trip is two or three years out.

Every five years or so, I've been able to take leave for six months to a year for a longer tour. I'm early in that cycle of dreaming and scheming since I was touring for 10 months in 2007...but top things in my current dreams is to cross either Africa or South America under my own power. Africa I would likely do in a supported ride with these folks: http://www.tourdafrique.com and South America I would do self-supported. Time to start learning Spanish :)

My last tour was last weekend*, and so far this year I've had three short tours in three different states. My mind is already moving toward a long weekend at the end of April, and another tour, this time taking some back roads up to Crows Nest (north west of Brisbane) and returning by some other back roads. My next major tour is set down for October/November, when I'll be visiting New Zealand's North Island.

* I don't have a "formal" tour report prepared, but in the mean time, you can read about it here (http://life-cycle.blogspot.com/2008/03/mullum-wanderings-part-1.html) and here. (http://life-cycle.blogspot.com/2008/03/mullum-wanderings-part-ii.html)

To have a NEXT tour the one I am on has to end first and I have only been cycling for 6 months.

When it ends I will have to have a think.

I really want to go to Antarctica, it's the only continent I haven't ridden on. so if anyone has contacts please help me get there, just 100 mtrs down the runway would do.

I tend to plan several options and wind up picking one, kind of on the spur of the moment when it comes to trips, but... The most likely tour for this year is Skyline Drive and the Blue Ridge Parkway. I am limited in my leave and don't care much for shorter tours so that is likely to be the only tour this year. I hope to squeeze in some weekend sailing and some weekend backpacking to fill out the rest of the year.

From my home to Green Lane, PA, and back, the last weekend in April.

From Pittsburgh, PA, to Washington, DC, the first week in June.

From my home to Reading, PA, and back in July.

A trip to Cape May, NJ, and back in August. No idea where we are starting from.

An overnight on the Delaware Canal towpath in October.

All these tours are with "neilfein", the other half of Neils on Wheels.

A man of my own way of thinking.

In April, a three dayer to Elk Neck and there abouts, then in May I'm going to do basically the same thing you did last year; just reverse the direction. That and I will not stick to the TA route the whole time. I may (may, I say) wander south towards Texas and I am certainly stopping in Spokane and Seattle before taking the coast to SF or perhaps San Diego. And for sure, a few sails before I set out. It's gonna be weird. I can't imagine being away from salt water for so long. I'm sacrificing the Bermuda Race to do this (not to mention the whole local schedule)—and getting the hairy eyeball from our crew.

I'll be riding Cycle North Carolina's spring event in early April. Not carrying any gear, but will be camping. All of the rides are loops that start and end in Oriental, a little coastal village. Should be a very pleasant way to kick off the warmer riding season, probably riding about 200 miles in three days.

In August, my brother and I are planning a similar weeklong tour based out of Sparta, Wisconsin. Again, we won't have to carry any gear because all of the rides are loops that start and end in Sparta. We've done this ride once before and it was my favorite tour. The scenery is very nice in SW Wisconsin with little traffic. Sparta is a very bike-friendly town and claims to have the first rails-to-trails route. We'll probably ride about 400 miles in 6 days.

I'll be touring this summer but haven't made up my mind yet. I might do the Appalachians and the deep south, which I have never seen, and the advantage of this tour is it starts and ends at my front door, down and back. And I love riding in the hills.

But i might decide to the redo vast swatches of the northern rockies/pacific northwest...Idaho, Montana, the Wallowas and Blues of Oregon; the Sawtooths, Bitterroots, etc. The west is drier and more open.

I better make my mind up quick.... ;)

Planning on a couple of weekend tours this summer along with something longer late summer/early fall. Probably all in the New England area. Just got my new bike last weekend!

Gosh! All these globe-girdling plans. My oh-so-modest (boring) plan is to leave the front porch in June. The rest of the family is headed north to Ashland for some theater. It's always seemed "purer" to me to ride without automobile or other motorized transport. Fortunately, we live in the middle of what I am convinced is the best bicycling country in the world -- empty roads, great scenery and all-year-long riding weather. (Before you disagree, you might check in with Tom Ritchey-Bruce Gordon-Grant Peterson-Kestrel-Santa Cruz-Easy Rider-Soma-Fox-Specialized and a bunch more Central CA builders about why they're here.)

Prolly leave after a short day Friday, and either roll to Pinnacles National Monument (caves! swimming pool! beer!) or Mercey Hot Springs (hot tubs! pools! great birding! Beds!) Neither place offers food, so a stove and groceries are part of the plan. Leaning toward Mercey because I wouldn't need to pack tent and bedding and because it's a little farther. Lots of great scenery, abandoned mines, a ghost town, historic structures.

If it's hot, I'll either ride to Monterey or Santa Cruz and noodle around there for a day before coming home.

First weekend we are over 50F I am going North. Memorial weekend I am going East for 4 days. As you can tell I am not much for a solid plan, I like to load the trailer and stick my map book under the bungie net and go. I find the coolest things that way, I also find the worst roads sometimes :(

I'm going to do some weekend tours in May and June, but next long-ish tour will be in the Canadian Arctic. I was going to ride from Inuvik, NWT to Calgary Alberta (http://www.blogger.com/post-edit.g?blogID=34647801&postID=6117362270313960010), but I have some new commitments in August that have made me re-think my plans. I'm currently thinking of riding from Whitehorse, Yukon to Inuvik, NWT and back. That way it will be a shorter tour, but way more of the wilderness areas I love.

At the end of May my wife and I will be starting a tour, with another couple of friends, in Nice France. We'll meander through Provence for a bit before heading into the Alps. We plan on hitting some of the big climbs along the way; Mont Ventoux, Alpe d'Huex, Galibier, etc. After two weeks or so we'll send our friends to Geneva for their flight home, and my wife and I will continue into Southern Switzerland. We'll traverse the south of Switzerland before heading into Italy and over the Stelvio. From there we wander into the Lakes region and then fly home from Milan. All in all we'll be out for one month even and hope to camp almost the entire way.

Happy trails everyone!!

I'll be doing the fantabulous Georgian Bay circle, clock-wise. Up to the cute and touristy village of Tobermory, and take the longest great lake ferry ride to the lovely Manitoulin Island. Then up into the wild canadian shield, passing by the 'nickel' city of Sudbury which has one or (or 2?) chimneys 1200 feet tall! Down through central Ontario to Killarney Provincial Park for a few days of hiking. After that, I'll pass by the friendly town of Parry Sound and then deeper into scenic cottage country, for the Toronto crowd. And lastly, swinging by Barrie, on Lake Simcoe, that has pleasant lake front bicycle trails and a terrific Thai restaurant. Then, well, home.:( Later in the summer maybe a loop tour through Montreal and Ottawa; both are very bicycle friendly...

The only hard part will be knowing if I can use an alcohol stove while there. I'll want to make spaghetti for dinner.

+1. The coast, the valleys, the Sierra Mtns. And year round cycling weather (320 days of sunshine!) We're just plain spoiled.

OK, enough gloating. This summer I'll be leaving from my front door and heading across the valley and over the Sierra Mtns, across Nevada, do some hiking at the North Rim Grand Canyon, take in the Vermillion Cliffs and Monument Valley of Utah, take an awesome route thru Colorado, to include the RMNP, head over to Flaming Gorge and up to the Tetons and Yellowstone in Wyoming, continue further north to Glacier NP (from the east entrance), and turn southwest toward Missoula, and cross into the Clear Water Country of Idaho (paying special attention to the sites and history of the Nez Perce tribe). Finally, I'll pretty much take the TA route across Oregon eventually arriving in Hillsboro (where I have family). More details can be found here (http://www.daystarbotanicals.com/biketour08/index.html). I may take my 26" wheeled tourer so I can enjoy more dirt/fire roads. Some of this route I had planned to do 2 years ago, but decided in the middle of that tour to head east from Denver (instead of going north) and do the whole cross-country thing instead. I'm glad I did. It was great to finally go cross-country after 25 years of touring.

On june 30, my wife and I will head east (from northern VT, just below the border with Quebec),
when we get to the coast will go a little south to Portland, ME. Take the ferry across to Nova Scotia.
Then keep the coast on our right as we proceed around Nova Scotia. Where ever we are in 30 days,
we will then plot a route directly back home, projecting 80 km/day.

That's a great tour you've planned. I've toured Nova Scotia several times, to include the perimeter, and it is one of my favorite rides. The scenery is amazing, the towns and villages are lovely, and the people are absolutely wonderful. Don't be tempted to leave off Cape Breton and the Cabot Trail--some of the best scenery in North America! If time permits, a trip across the ferry to bike Prince Edward Island is a special treat. And of course, there is Iles de la Madeleine (via ferry from PEI) and Newfoundland (a tour in itself), but with your time constraints, those are probably adventures for another time. The maritimes are very special indeed.

Have a wonderful time!
