Thought this deserved it's own thread. Here's all the info I've found so far on the new LX which is geared directly towards trekking.

It looks beautiful. I'm thinking of getting that dyno hub.

It looks like the hubs have Shimano's road-style seals. Weird, I assume those seals aren't as robust as the mountain seals.

I'd been keeping my fingers crossed for hubs with unbendable oversized chromoly axles and maybe allen key serviceablility a la Phils. This seems like a move in the exact opposite direction...

It would be really nice if they used us nice people at BikeForums to test this groupo out! :p

I wonder how much it is going for?

Why not just replace the axels with solid a axel. You would only have to carry a 1 mm spanner with you, 3/4 of one if you want to cut abit off to save weight. I have alway thought unless you are racing q/r are silly. More hassel for most common riding, and cirtainly a very silly thing to have as standard on Mr & Mrs Averages bike as they currently are.

A solid axle is insignificantly stiffer than a hollow one. That route is only worthwhile if you think bolts make wheels harder to steal. I think removing the front wheel thanks to the blessed Q/R and u-locking everything at once is better.

Shimano already makes hubs with with a 14mm aluminum axle, in the XT and XTR levels. If they just took the XT hub shell forging, but used a chromoly axle, that would be serious progress.

My beef with cone wrenches is not so much the weight, as the relative difficulty of their use combined with the fact that I cut my knuckles every [REDACTED] time I do so!
