Foo - Damned Decals.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

What's up with bikes and garish decals. I'm not opposed to branding but huge decals are just ugly. A badge on the headtube show the manufacturer and a decal on the seat tube to indicate the tubeset is a lot classier. What are we, label *****s on two wheels? We don't drive cars with huge decals on the side that scream TOYOTA COROLLA!

You're not OCP, are you?
Nothing says mine's bigger and better and newer than a nice big decal :D .

I agree. I particularly don't like the expensive wheels with the big lettering.
I'll be happy to garishly advertise your fancy product when you pay me.
I'm really starting to appreciate all those elegant fixies that I see people putting together.

You could shave 200-300 grams off that bike by removing the decals :p .

I can't believe they missed a good 5" on the chainstay, and it look like they could have put something else on the crank arms.
Look at those unadorned bars! What, they couldn't be arsed to stitch a bunch of logos into the bartape?

And it needn't be a fixed gear to be decal-free:

I removed every sticker from my road bike (those above the clearcoat, anyway) except for the build QC sticker since that one was under some tape that would have been a pain to deal with. Yes, including the CSC stickers on the seat tube. Yes, even the little QC sticker on the back side of the crankarm. And the oh so annoying one letter one sticker business on my aero wheels. The advertising that's under the clearcoat, well, that would take way too much effort to deal with.

I don't even like to have labels on my clothing thinking like many that, if you want me to advertise your product, you need to be paying me.
I like this:

My newer Treks have much bigger logos on them that just scream, steal me. A number of them have been removed or covered with much more functional reflective tape.

I'm eliminated by rule 6 (steel frame) so I guess I'm not OCP. I don't wear matching clothes but I do have a matching stem and seatpost. (Thomson) I'm planing on building a new set of wheels with White Industries hubs because I like the elegant design. I don't think I'm OCP but then again there are crazy people who swear they're sane.
Yeah, I know. :) I've got me one-a them, too:

Well there's still the embossed logo on the Brooks saddle, I know Surly's got a logo on the flask and the Planet Bike stuff on the Superflash, then there's the tires and the seat pack. Horrors! Logos everywhere!
Just busting your chops ;) At least those logos are small and unobtrusive unlike those on the OCP specials above.
OCP? Me? Naw I'm out by rule 3 (and 6)

Actually, the bikes are less expensive than they would be without the reduction you get for riding a rolling billboard... Just imagone what the bikes would cost retail. :)

is this fugly bike plain enough for you?

I count seven visible (in the picture) logos on that one. Stem, both derailers, seat post, crank arm, pedal and saddle...
Bad photo... But my commuter is relatively logo free...
