As far as events and weekly rides go. I am fairly new to cycling, and would like to work myself on the way up from the bottom.

Well, it depends on where you're starting from, but there are quite a few pretty reasonable rides of varying distances and difficulties here at the Seattle Bicycle Touring Club maps library:

I've done a few of their routes and found them quite enjoyable. If you're just looking to toodle around a bit, then you might check out the King County Bicycle maps here:

Good luck and have fun!

there are a few hills but it is a fun ride the road is closed to cars so that does make it nice

Join in on some Cascade cycling club bike rides. They have some beginner rides.

For an event, if you're up for the fundraising...
The Tour de Cure has a 15 mile flat course along the Sammamish River Trail from Marymoor Park to Wilmot Gateway Park in Woodinville and back. Lots of people, lots of support, and the TdC is just a fun event to be part of. It's on May 17th this year.

The only other place I've ever heard of Biorad was from Nature Magazine's Podcast. I always remember how they had hilarious taglines for their products that would make my non-science-oriented friends' eyes pop out of their head.

'new dna polymorphism anistotrophy probe'???!

Oh, you haven't seen the "we are the world" inspired automated PCR video, have you? This just takes the cake:

We're having a fund raiser bike ride for the volunteer fire dept, there are three routes, from 20 miles - mostly flat to 72 miles with some climbing. There are pictures and more info, further down in this NW forum.
