Hi,

I'm just clearing some stuff up.

I know solid axles are bolted and hollow are quick-released. But are there hollow axles that are bolted?

Not that I've ever seen. "Bolted" (more accurately: nutted) axles are much longer than a qr axle for a given hub spacing so qr axles wouldn't be long enough to accept the nuts.

In Sturmey Archer 3-speeds, the control chain/cable goes through the hollow nutted axle the drive side.

can I use 130 qr axles on 120 hubs nuted?

Probably not. A 130 mm hub takes a 141 mm qr axle and the ends stay just inside the dropout faces when built up. With 120 mm dropouts you would only have at most a total of 10 mm extra or 5 mm per side sticking out of the dropouts. That's not enough for the nuts plus washers normally used.

Yes there are hollow axles that are bolted

Theres BMXs with hollow axles that have normal wheel nuts. Dont know if they still do this.

Theres normal hollow axles that have a long bolt instead of a quick release. For security, less likely to get stolen.

Ive also seen hollow axles that have been threaded inside to take bolts. For lightness. Think it was Mike Burrows that I first heard doing that
