Speedplay sells this pedal grease gun for 20 bucks plus $8 shipping. I really do not want to spend 28 dollars for this http://www.speedplay.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=home.merchandise does anyone know what grease gun type end/coupler/whatever it's called they use. I know for cars they sell one that fits over a ball like grease joint. Does anyone have this or how do you that use them maintain your x series pedals. Speedplay is very adamant about greasing these pedals.

I use a small grease pump from Pedros on my Speed plays.

Check auto supply stores. They have similar guns for half the price.

the gun i have , its the coupler on the end i was concerned with. you just take the cap off and pump it through until the old comes out by the spindle?

Yes. Go here, http://speedplay.com/pubs/grease.pdf for instructions.

I bought the Speedplay grease gun 'cuz I have 6 speedplays to grease between the members of my family, but you do need to get their gun. You can get any gun that have a needle type injector small enough to fit the hole. I think the older version of Speedplay requires you to remove the black cap at the end of the pedal. This may be hard to grease because your grease gun has to cover the whole hole in order to effectively inject the grease straight through the spindle. The newer version has a screw at the end of the pedal and you simple unscrew it and inject the grease (a lot easier)! Good luck.

Here is the type of grease gun fitting that you need to inject the grease into the Speedplay pedals. Personally, I use Phil Wood Waterproof Grease.

the website makes it look like you need a very special piece for the end, i guess not. I have a pedros grease injector i am going to try and use.

Does your Speedplays have a screw at the end of it or is it just a bike platic cover that you will have to pop off with a sharp tool? If it's a screw, you just simply unscrew it and inject the grease. If it doesn't had a screw at the end, you will have to pry the plastic peice off and somehow seal the hole while you inject the grease. That's what the adapter is for. I have a couple of Speedplays that doesn't have a screw a the end of it, that's why I bought their gun...to get the adaptor. I'm sure you can simply use your fingers plug it while you pump the grease in. If you don't plug it with something, the grease will come right back at ya. Plugging it forces the grease down the spindle.

Yep! That's it. Make sure you turn the spindle while you're injecting the grease so it's evenly distributed.

i removed the screw and stuck the injector in and i gave it a pump and absolutely no grease went in, it forced the black cap that goes around the screw to pop out andthats it. i couldnt see where the greae would even go unless it goes in the hole that the little screw goes into.

Sounds like the force of the grease pushed the cover cap out. Put the cap back in and put enough pressure on the cap with your fingers or the grease gun to keep it plugged tight while you inject the grease. This will force the grease down the spindle. Speedplay makes an adaptor call "Speedy Luber" for this purpose, but I don't think you really need if you can use put enough pressure on the cap while you inject the grease. I don't know if you can buy the Speedy-Lubber by it self. Mine came with the grease gun I bought from them. I didn't have any problems with the screw type speedplays. I guess the caps on mine was on there really tight.
