Just wanted to encourage you guys to check out a new coffee shop/hangout joint in Duarte - it's called Joe's Place, and it's right next to The Green Onion in the plaza on the corner of Buena Vista and Huntington Dr.

I've been there a total of 6 times in the past two weeks to try different things - their homemade chicken noodle soup on Mondays is to die for. Their espresso drinks are darn good, and their homemade chocolate chip cookies are absolutely delicious. And let me not forget to mention their breakfast sandwiches . . .

More importantly, there is ample room up front for leaning bikes, and I've even brought mine in several times and leaned it against the metal railing off to the side of the entrance where the restrooms are located.

Atmosphere is amazingly chill/cozy, with couches, all sorts of different tables, huge bookshelf with book selection, and an upright piano if you feel like rocking out.

I've met the owner and spoken with him the times I was there - his name is Joe (duh), and is young, hard-working, and extremely friendly and gracious. Really makes you feel at home. The place has been open since 11/07, and I just wanted to pass the word along to you guys in case you ever ride in the area (Encanto, SGRT, Azusa, etc.) and have time to stop by and check it out and give it your patronage.

Their website is currently under construction and is just an info page -

I tend to go back to any business that encourages me to bring my bike inside like that...

If they ask me to take my bike out, not so much, although I realize that is their right as a business owner.

I will continue to do business at the most "bike friendly" places when I have the choice.

Thanks, Luwin. Now, those who don't like GO, can grab eats there. I'll definitely give it a try. :)

I don't mind if they ask me to take the bike out, but I mind if they're rude about it. Pssh, like I really wanted that Macho Combo Burrito anyway.

Some of the places that I go to seem as worried about my bike and it's security as I am...

I can't help but like them...:D

Me too...which is why this could be a good thing. Those who love GO, go there, and those who don't have a yummy place to get food and come join those at GO. Win-win. :D

This place used to be called "Bananas" and was another venture by the folks who owned the Green Onion. I guess its hard to run a Juice/smoothie joint when Jamba Juice moves in across the street.

Good luck to Joe's Place. I'll be doing GMR this Saturday, i think Ill stop by

The Green Onion has been a fixture in the city for more that a decade. It was originally located down the street on the site that is currently called the "Great Onion" I was disappointed when they lost their lease and noticed the letters "A" and "T" pasted over the letters in the sign. When I went inside, the place had been redecorated and there was a Chinese couple preparing Mexican food! (long story....)

Sometime later, I discovered the original Green Onion proprietors in their present location on Huntington & Buena Vista and have been eating there ever since. In an amusing reversal, the original chef now owns "The Green Onion" and the former owners help out. The outside seating was one of their trademarks and makes for a great cycling pitstop. (Besides, I like sharing everything--including my meals--with my bicycle)
