My buddy locked his tri bike to the railing in front of Sports Basement and came out to find it gone. It was a look 565 with Zipp 404s (Powertap), Look Keo Carbons, Dura Ace (including bar end shifters) and full aero bars. I figure that bike would retail at $6000 if he tried to replace it.
Just a word to the wise. Be careful. (and if you spot it in the Bay Area or on Craigs List or Ebay, his screen name at Slowtwitch is StevieK).

Thanks for the tip. I hope it's not the start of a knew trend. I've actually left my bike unlocked in a pinch there to get food and drink. Won't be doing that now.

What kind of lock did he have? How was it broken?
I always bring my bike in. It doesn't leave my sight.

PS He's a really good friend of mine. I know for a fact that he has plenty of pictures of just his bike against the garage, but probably couldn't resist the opportunity to post an action shot. :-) (yeah, I'm just jealous, if I could do a half ironman in 5:19, I'd be pretty happy too).
BTW, was at Sports Basement today with my bike in the car (with the top up) and I felt nervous. They have posted a sign saying a few bikes have been stolen from the parking lot and inviting people to take them in. Spied more than a few people walking their bikes around.
Did you check with the store if they had surveillance tapes?

Yea he did. Not much help, they weren't angled properly. So far, it hasn't turned up on Craigslist or EBay either.

Eh what was he doing locking 6k bike outside? I would have brought it in.

He was stupid. Admitted as much. Riding to work on that bike the day before California 70.3, stopping in to SB to pick up some stuff. Stupid, stupid, stupid. Although he is pretty excited about the new P2C, he would much rather have had that Look. Spent a lot of time getting it to where he wanted it.
