It doesn't matter. Sign up for whichever class you can make it to. In the "Beginner to Advanced" class, he'll ask everyone about their track experience. If you've never ridden a fixed gear bike before, he'll have you do really simple stuff to familiarize yourself with it.

You guys missed my illustrious racing debut. I got beat by girls in the first race (5 lap scratch). I came in second in the second race (5 lap scratch "loser's" race) by attacking the field with 2 laps to go coming out of turn 2. A guy from UCSD beat me at the line. The 25 lap points race was an epic failure for me. I pulled off before the the first sprint as I was dangling off the back, and I saw a guy ahead of me by about 50m pull off.

49x15 might be a little too big more me. It felt heavy the whole time.

is it safe to assume that you may have been in way over your head on this particular evening?

When I raced Cat1/2 on that track MANY years ago, I ran an 88 inch gear (49x15) a lot because you would get bogged down by the wind in the north turn, though when the heavies (Roger Young, Mark Gorski, the Whitehead brothers, etc) I would usually have to run a 48x14 (92").

I'm running that 88 inch gear now, and it feels too tall. I ran 49x16 for class. I'm thinking maybe it was just my legs that were toast. I'm going to try the 49x15 for a couple more weeks.

You are correct. I did not race. What I did is more accurately described as "hanging on."

Sprint Night is this week! There is also a "regular program" this Friday for those people who are not into the sprinting thing.

There is a race program tomorrow (Friday) night. Still over my head, but not WAY over my head I think.

So there was not a racing program last Friday, because not enough racers showed up to justify starting the program. There will be a program tomorrow though, and I'll be floating near up towards the surface, I hope.

Was a good night. I won $1. :p

Got to see Junior Team USA (Kit Karzen and Iggy Silva) win the 70 lap Madison. Those kids are fast.
