Anyone going to take part in this charity ride(April 19th)? This will be my first ride with a group larger than...myself. The start/finish line is about 1/4 of a mile from my house so thats a plus. I dont really know what length to do..37mi or 63mi. I KNOW i could do the 37, but i havent ever rode 63mi. I am leaning toward the 63mi...might aswell push myself, right?

A simple training tip- work up to riding 40 mile rides, but do it 2 days in a row. Take about 3 or 4 days
off before the 63 mile ride.

You threw me for a minute. I was thinking "Isn't that in Granbury?" But your ID shows Abilene.
Can you get a route map? On a lot of these rides, you can switch off from one route to the other. In that case, you just ride to the switchoff point, and if you're feeling good, off you go on the long route.
Ya i should say, My parents house is a 1/4mi from the start/finish. My apartment is about 2hours. I hope they give a route map with the sign up packet. I guess i will find out.
I'll be there. If you can climb a few hills before you do it, that will help. The route arrows are still visible from last year if you was to ride the route prior to the 19th.
I'm thinking about riding this event. There sure is some nice scenery in that area... Anybody know the usual turn-out for this ride? The more the merrier...

I emailed from the site and got a response back plus routes/maps. The email says in part,
"The rides overlap.
"You can start out on the 63 mile ride. 10 miles in change to the 23 mile ride at Wildcat knob. the 63 & 37 mile rides continue. you have two chances to switch to the 37 mile ride after that. We have changed the 37 mile ride to travel on Bakers Crossing this year. You can cut back to the 37 mile ride on FM 205, but that is your last chance. The 63 mile ride is a tough ride, some pretty long hills on the back side."
The routes or maps are in doc form, so I'll have to pull them up at work tomorrow. PM me if you need a copy. Note that the route is not identical to the previous routes.
I actually picked up a brochure(sp?) at Bicycles Inc. Saturday(it had the routes in it.). I am just going to sign up for the 37mi and if i feel good keep going and do the 63. I ride around that area and know the hills down by chalk mountain (the 63mi course) are going to be pretty tough..but it should be fun.
Cruisin de Hood is this saturday...anyone else going to ride? By the way i passed a few cyclists on sat and sun. in granbury (on paluxy hwy) wouldnt happen to have been anyone on the site would it?

If I can't find something longer distance, I'll be there!
I'll be there w/ four friends. Should be some good hill training.
Ya, commanche peak kicked my arse saturday...so did the insane hill on brushy road, and rainbow hill...

I think last year was around 450 people.
There is a couple good climbs on the route. The southern part of Hwy 51 and then the section of 1006 that connects to Hwy 67 fall into that category. If they are doing the pictures on Commanche Peak, that climb is short but very steap but worth the effort.

Did you catch any specific jersey or bike info? I was working but our group normally starts every Sat and Sun at Hwy 61 and Brushy.
Ya i passed them on both days (at brushy rd., on a side note my parents house is right up the road). I dont know why i didnt stop to say hi. How far do y'all usually ride? And are you open to "new guys" lol...
The 9am Sat/Sun rides vary in length depending on how everyone is feeling and schedules but it is usually in the 30-50 mile range and it is hilly. Average speeds range from 18-20mph. There are also Mon/Wed (beginner) and Tue/Wed (faster) group rides usually starting off the square at 6pm. You can contact Gary at the Bike Rack for more info. We welcome anyone and everyone.
As far at the Cruisin de Hood, winds made the 63 mile route a pain on Hwy 67 but coming back north towards Tolar was not bad.
I agree. The wind SUCKED. What also sucked is missing the last rest stop in tolar, flew right by it (i was more worried about the intersection of 377/56).

I ended up finding a nice hilly 200K to kick my behind, but one of my buddies did the long route on his Bacchetta aero.
