Does anyone have any experience with ALien Hubs ? I have been talking to a guy about getting a Velocity Deep V wheel w/ Alien quick release Hub for $100. Is this a good deal? - This is for one front wheel.

Be careful and watch that foot coming off that leg over skid. Haha. Wouldnt want to knock your front wheel off.

It's the dimension hub, they're fine, lots of people have them. They come with hollow axles, you can cut them down to be quick release easily. Worst case scenario is the bearings are smoked and need to be replaced.

can i make the quick release hub into a bolted hub? I'm not really into the Quick release thing, but i've been thinking of just getting a wheel set from pro wheel builder. ??

You'd need a new axle, which is not easy on those. I'm assuming this is a front, why not run QR? They're totally secure, and most bikes have lawyer lips on the fork anyway.

theres a lock you can buy that replaces the quick release that i've seen in stores. dont know how well they work.

QR's are perfectly fine for the front.

They are called Pitlock, and they work very well. I've been using them for years.

Planet bike also makes a version which is a little less theftproof, but cheaper and more readily available.
Pitlocks are theoretically pretty vulnerable, but nobody ever bothers messing with them.

I've heard this rumor many times, yet I have never heard a verified account of a Pitlocked wheel being stolen.

Well, it's the same thing as with U locks, they can be cut, but rarely does anyone bother because there's always a bike locked with a cable on the same rack.

Allen key skewers are a lot cheaper than pitlocks and a lot more secure than a qr (not to mention nicer looking). That said, a front pitlock skewer seems like a pretty good idea, since you can always lock the back wheel with the frame.
